why on earth would someone spend 3 days installing 300Gb of libraries for something that they hardly ever use?hueynym wrote:Wait. You only had 76 gigs of old SampleTank libraries? This is from my Sonik Synth 2 VI when I went to try to download sounds. If this is for ALL my products, I don't find it egregious.

NOT having this stupid policy at all would deserve kudos. this is just putting some mayo into a shit sandwich.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

Hear, hear. You'll notice they wouldn't explain WHY they were charging 15 euros for each re-download, because, of course, they know they can't possibly justify it. It's pretty outrageous, in this day and age, when we all know how little bandwidth costs, and how little it costs to rent a server, and how few people would be re-downloading any given expansion set, or product, at any given time anyway. It speaks volumes about how they see their customers, and it will cost them more than it makes them, in the long run. (Because people will be put off buying a 200 euro product after hearing negative comments about having to pay another 15 euros if they want to re-download it in a year's time, or whatever).el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote:it's preposterous, either way. if the case is made that the price is to cover server space, then why would someone only owning 2gig of data have to pay for the same as someone who has over 60gigs of data ??Bombadil wrote:I thought I'd read that they charge the $15 for all your content?
but, how can the case be made anyway ?? it's not like every install of the software is different. they have to have the instals for new customers, anyway. distribution channels e.g servers are part of the outgoing costs of running the business. it's just another way of fleecing customers. and, yes peter, the company has the right to do business how it chooses. but it's just one of the many justifiable reasons why ikmultimedia have the reputation they do
So has the 15 euros per item charge now gone, and they are charging one amount to re-download everything?
It's still a ridiculous rip off, they can't even measure how much it costs them in bandwidth, because doubtless they have an unlimited bandwidth hosting plan - who the hell doesn't nowadays?
EDIT: I've just checked my account and it is indeed now 'only' 7.99 euros to re-download everything. Why didn't they publicise that in this thread when I asked several times about their ripoff prices? Why didn't they say "Due to customer feedback we have now changed our policy on re-downloading and made it 7.99 euros to re-download ALL of your products for another 180 days". Why change the policy to something much more fair and then not even announce that they've improved it?
Why not just get rid of the charge altogether? It seems as if 'customer satisfaction' is a dirty word at IKM. (Okay, it's two word, but you get my drift.)

And by the way, nobody, and I mean nobody, has an intro page on their website, that you have to click through to get to the actual website, and also NOBODY has music playing on the aforementioned intro page. How irritating is that for somebody who is most likely already listening to music, or watching a video, when they surf to the IKM website?
