Has anyone here really really dug into the internal sounds that come with MD? I went through them all when I first bought it, but it turns out I was only auditioning preset kits. When you go into the Quick Start, and open the Designer tab, there are countless additional drum sounds available. I didn't know this until today! Hahaha. Always something new creeping up on me.

Anyway, the point is, I seriously think I can put together natural-sounding kits, and with some determination and patience, my goal is to make MD the only drum app I use. My style of music is basically classic rock, and lately my songs are comprised of little more than acoustic guitar, bass, drums, and vocals.

Some of the Vintage snares sound really nice, and by messing with the fadeout settings, you can make the cymbals ring out for a long time. I'm going for a sound that is really natural, and sounds like you're in the room listening to the band play. If that makes sense. I find myself less and less attracted to the sound of a close-mic'd drum kit, preferring the more live, real sound. Especially with predominantly acoustic-based songs.

I'd like to hear from those who use only the stock MD drum sounds and maybe we can discuss/share some kits, tweaks, or general tips on getting killer sounds.

I love this program more and more every time I play with it.

I use the kit randomizer exclusively. It's so much faster than starting from scratch, and the results are often very usable already - just switch-out some sounds or alter the FX.

MDrummer is awesome, but in truth it's total overkill for my needs, and I'm tending to synthesize my own drums, so it gets less use than it should. But every time I fire it up I keep asking myself why I don't use it more.

I'd love to see Melda release a drumsynth using 6 4nn synth modules with a small selection of FX. I think it would be a hit. The 4nn is top-class but is overshadowed by the smorgasbord of other amazing options. My brain can't handle it :P

Thank you guys!

Actually the point about MDrummer is to provide overall solution, not focused to vintage drums at all, because every other drum machine on the market does that :D. Personally I'm a lazy person, so I always randomize a new kit, randomize / generate a new rhythm and that's about it :D. It works great when you want to get something "innovative".

Anyway I know several people have been complaining about the vintage kits. But personally I find them very good. They may not sound like you are in a room with the drummer, but they fit the mix so well and let's face it eventually the drums in a mix doesn't sound the original way anymore. I tried several other drum machines and was never very happy about it.

And I have thought about a drum synth using MSynthesizer4NN several times, there's something about it ;). But didn't have time yet... Hopefully soon :). After all with the BigKick released recently (which seems riddiculous, who would use a plugin just for a kick?? so much work needed around it)...

@edkilp :If you want a rock sound apply a sort of live medium/large reverb on mdrummer it 'll do the trick but for classic rock (ex ACDC) i 'll use AD drums imo.
Personnally i drop all the effects (reverb etc...) on any pièces of kit and i just apply a slightly reverb on the master.

Vojteck you right they are the best sounding drums on a mix without tweaking but they are too punchy they are good for metal , rock (not pop) and that's all funk blues and all other soft genre don't suit the Mdrummers kits.
For the jazz kit indeed it's really very good.
I think a new kit more organic would be very good.

Yep Simon, you are right I guess. You know, I'm personally more into electronic / jazz / ambient music, so that's probably the cause :D

Ah i understand now, was thinking you're princypally in metal stuff :p
Well metal is popular jazz and ambient too but pop rock is more popular so it can be a good value for potential customers.
ex: I would be proud to recommend mdrummer but here's its not the case

Anyway it would be good for meldaprod and us too ^^

A reggae kit 'll be good too :p

Hey edkilp, great OP, I share your enthusiasm.
Have you discovered the mic (position) mixer in Drumset editor> Layer source> MMultiSampler> MTotalDrums1 (and MTotalPercussion 1). Choose say a snare..see the mixer tab on the right...turn up the overhead for more room sound. To see the controls for all 5 mics I have to minimize the velocity layers panel and the toolbar panel up the top (MD 5.01).

Have just tried to randomize the drumset in quick setup designer and really i prefer my own kit without effects.
