It has absolutely minimum host automation, and for a high end plugin (the price tag certainly suggests that) that is poor to say the least.
It wouldn't be so bad if the macro controls could be customised but they are hard wired.
Midi automation is only one way, hit record and turn some knobs And nothing gets recorded, nothing gets sent to an external controller so no recall.

It does quite a lot and will likely have some evolution of these features in the future on top of what it already does.

Google "Miss Tiffany's Universe" and you'll see that his initial post may have actually been even more clever than that.dsan@mail.com wrote:"I MUST have Miss Understood"

So, as far as I can see, the story goes like that (more or less):
(1) in 2007-2008 many requests started for a new ST version (I remember the long 3-4 years topic on IKM forum about it).
(2) in 2009 IKM realized it was impossible to port ST2 64 bit, ST3 had to be made from scratch (IK explained why in the forum).
(3) meanwhile IKM entered the "i" business, and all those "i-this" and "i-that" became their first interest. They even made "i-stk" app for ipad.
(4) however (2011-2012) many people did not lose interest in Sampletank, and kept asking for ST3. Maybe it was even because of the endless "crazy buy", "no brainer", "4 for 1" selling ST2 and its expansions coming out every month or so.
(5) As stated above, there was no way to update ST2, due to some CC+ issues or such. So IKM started to make ST3, following the two main requested features: (1) 64 bit; (2) bigger GUI.
(6) When finally ST3 came out, almost 8 years had passed and ten since ST2. In computer music it's like a century: nowadays "90s like rom workstations" are considered rather obsolete, because (a) they don't offer enough "realism" (such as those huge GBs dedicated Kontakt libraries and/or high technology physical moddeled plugins); (b) the sound are not "wow" and "cool" enough for dubstep era.
(7) Three kind of people: (a) People like me like ST3 very much, because they’ve benn using ST for years, so they know well what it is and what is isn't (and will never be). They want a "90s workstation" working more or less like an old Trinity (which force was the DSP: a few kb samples + effects chain); (b) seems there are some people who hate IKM because of their past/present policy, greed, lack of support, responsivity, honesty or smth. I've never experienced such issues with them in 10 years; (c) newbies don't understand the thing, they wonder: "what can I do whit it, since there are tons of much better XXX gb sounds and instruments out there? Why should I play the 1gb ST piano, when I can easily find those wonderful 30-40 gb dedicated piano libraries for Kontakt? Why should I limit myself with the cheap ST pseudoanalog leads, when Diva..." etc.
(8) IKM "fault" (IMHO): they had to be clearer regarding what ST3 is: "the ultimate 90s style soft rompler workstation" in the "ultrarealistic XXX GB" era. On the contrary, they wanted new customers to put attention to the "beautiful sounds" and the "30gb samples" (in the terabyte era, they had to specify: "which for a 90s rompler emulation is huge"). Consequence: people laugh at the "voices library" etc. I didn't, because those are exactly what I wanted to find in ST: fake voices, like the ones you find in the 90s-00s hardware workstations. The rest of the work is mine: multi+efx chain.

well, to be honest, i can see the appeal. not everyone wants an ultra realistic guitar - most people won't notice anyway. if you want something that sounds almost, but not quite, entirely unlike a guitar, ST3 fits the job perfectly. same for voices, same for... well, pretty much everything, except for maybe drums and basses.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

Well, you must consider basses and drums are the easiest instruments to emulate. That is why one can emulate a realistic bass even with a semianalog vst, FM etc. Drums are very easy, too (because of the samples, that don't need more than 1 sec. and/or looping, they are fundamentally just one shot hits with 1-2 velocities when needed). And that is why, perhaps, most of the people find them "realistic".
