Yes that's fine, thank you. I'm very interested to hear what support has to say. Again I am more than happy to help with testing to find a solution but I'm not going to go through the support ticket system (I tried bug tracking with a plugin from another major company using their support ticket system and it drove me nuts).DarkStar wrote:Hope this is OK: I've just posted them to Support - let's see what they say.

without getting into technical details, here's a layman's version:dsan@mail.com wrote:Burillo, I'm unclear how a file may have became corrupted just sitting on a disk.
your HDD provides no guarantees that what comes in is the same as what has come out. it tries its best to preserve the data, but has no mechanisms to ensure it doesn't happen, and has very few mechanisms to notify you if it did. disk is a physical thing, which means it deteriorates over time, and some of the data may become silently corrupt. some errors are obvious (e.g. an unreadable sector) - OS usually will report those to you.
but HDD isn't the whole story. you also use a "filesystem" - that is, a method of physically organizing data on disk (i.e. what piece of a file goes to where, and how to find it all later). most filesystems (including one you're using) also do not provide data integrity. that is, filesystem doesn't know if what you're reading is the data you expect. so if a disk read error did not occur but the data is still corrupt, you'll never know until you try to do anything with it.
again, not saying this is the case. it just seems to me that it's somewhat likely to happen at some point because ST2 is an old piece of software and quite a few ST2 libraries are likely to be stored on disk for quite some time.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

I'm sure support will help. Yes, we have a ticket system but it works over email without logging into it at all but that's a moot point since DarkStar has reported your issues.
Here is a user who composed his track with all SampleTank 3 except his electric violin, and also use AmpliTube and T-RackS in the process:

It's a reasonable explanation and could possibly be the cause, don't know.
I would have to think if this is the case though the problem would be more widespread - more files than just the two corrupt. And this can still be possible as I have not yet investigated all the files.
I would also think it highly unlikely that identical files on multiple systems would be corrupt.
But as I said, I believe anything is possible
Thank you for taking the time to explain this Burillo

Yet those same files work just fine in ST2.......and the same files are "corrupt" on at least three different systems. I see what you are saying but I think in this case it does no apply.
Like I said I've have sample files for a bunch of plugins on this computer which is no longer my studio computer but instead is used for internet, legacy games etc for over a decade and I've never had a file be corrupt.
Even if those files were corrupt then ST3 is still loading them without throwing up an error message....it simply makes no sound....so that's not good either.

I'm more than happy to help with testing just let me know who to contact. Even by e-mail Beta Testing is somewhat tedious. It really works best in a forum environment like this where multiple testers can interact with the guys who write the code on a more immediate basis or something like FogBugz which I didn't really like as much as beta forums.Peter - IK Multimedia wrote:I'm sure support will help. Since DarkStar has relayed to support, let's go from there. That's the method of support that we offer and they will surely try to verify and report their finding to development.
We have a fourth tutorial video too, now, on working with patterns:

The versions of miro, ss, etc. that people are importing may not be exactly the same
... Depends on when they were purchased, downloaded, uodated , etc. Patches may have been cleaned up here and there over the years, dunno....

You can see how tedious the "relay" system can be....the user tells support, supports tells development, development has a question...they ask support who relays it to the reporting user.....and so on. Maddeningly tedious and horribly inefficient but it is what it is. If you guys don't have a private Beta Forum you really should look into creating one.......Peter - IK Multimedia wrote:Since DarkStar has relayed to support, let's go from there. Anyway on a lighter note I'd forgotten how good the Sonik Synth 2 content is....some great building blocks for Mulits.......some sweet choir sounds. The elements are great as well. I'll try to release some more Mulits based solely on the SS2 content.
I would instantly buy sample content from classic synths like the Ensoniq VFX/ESQ, Korg 03R/W, Yamaha SY77 etc etc.....ST3's layer abilities make it a perfect tool to emulate some of those great sounds from the 80's-90's. The shopping cart icon give me great hope that there will be some exciting new content released and hopefully we'll see some third party sample houses get involved as well.
One feature request...Browser "centering". Seems like I'm spending a lot of time scrolling in the browser. It would be nice if clicking on a folder would bring it to the top of the browser window so you could then access it's subfolders. Also a "collapse all" feature would be nice...apologies if this already exists. I've been having too much fun with ST3 to RTFM............

Usually it is support taking care of the questions directly with you then verifying what the issue is specifically, relaying to development for any required fix. It really isn't that tedious in our experience, but I can understand that you've had bad experiences in the past and I do like your idea about the forum. The only reason it is being "relayed" in any way in this case is because DarkStar opened a ticket for someone else. I have suggested we have a private forum, so maybe in the future that can be a possibility.
Thanks for the kind words about Sonik Synth 2, I always felt it was a bit of an unsung hero myself. I like the elements quite a lot too. I have a VFX-SD and even so I'd love to have the sounds directly now that so much more can be done in the box. I don't have my SY77 any more so I'd agree with that too
That preset "centering" concept has definitely been brought forth and was met with positive comments internally so I hope we see that in the future

I still have my VFX as well but having some of those wonderful patches as sample content to use in ST3 would be fantastic. I'd buy that sample content the second it was released....Peter - IK Multimedia wrote:Thanks for the kind words about Sonik Synth 2, I always felt it was a bit of an unsung hero myself. Another problem: Often, parts 1-4 will not sound. Input/outputs are correct, and there will be an occasional burst of sound, then nothing. If I move the instruments to parts 5 and above, the instruments sound normally. I have opened a ticket with support. So, for those of you who are having trouble with instruments sounding, my suggestion is to move them to part 5 or above, ensuring your ins and outs are sorted, and see what happens.
