There is no affordable contender for plates "only". Lexicon are very expensive for buying them just for plates. UAD is no solution for me. I think there is a market that no ones really fills.

That was worth the Googling to figure out what you were talking about.

A Valhalla plate reverb would be ValhallaPlate. That's the name. All I need to do is get an EMT140, and then figure out how it works, and then code it up and make it sound good!!!! It's Just That Simple!™

At some point, I want to rent some time at Avast here in town, as they have the EMT140 used by the Fleet Foxes. Yes, they have THAT plate. That is the Holy Grail of plate sounds, as far as I am concerned.

I don't anticipate making any serious progress on this during 2014, mind you. But I really really like the sound of a real EMT140. The physics of steel plates are fascinating as well, as the speed of sound varies as a function of frequency, which means that high frequencies come out before low frequencies. I would need to do a bunch of research to figure out the psychoacoustic significance of this, as well as the best way to reproduce this digitally.
