So far is there a big difference in performance between the Linux and Windows version?

Post

I'm a Mac guy, so I have to admit that I am not interested in a Linux version at all. Love the Penguin though!

My interest is in the 10% GUI re-sizing of Diva, I hope the Linux project doesn't push back the update date of Diva with the new re-sizing? :ud:

Just adding my voice to the praise choir for Linux versions of your synths. :)

Best regards,

Dave Phillips

I'll throw another voice into the Linux choir.

I'll put money on the table as soon as there's a Linux version.

Hurray for the forward-thinking developers.

Regarding Bazille: I am finding the pan law for OUT 1 and OUT 2 to be very confusing. The knob isn't smooth at all when moving through the stereo field. I get a gradual change four about 3/4ths of the knob in either direction and the last 1/4 is a drastic dropoff. The change between 100->96 is huge!

Am I missing something here? This feels nothing like Zebra's pan or balance knobs.

The Linux port is done entirely by abique, who's an external developer. Apart from answering questions and having to improve the setup of our build servers, we're doing business as usual :)

Zebra has stereo panning while Bazille (like ACE and Diva) pans a mono signal. Each voice in Zebra pans either the right side towards the left or the left side towards the right. That happens in the oscillators as well as the mixer section. Therefore, depending on whether signals are correlated or not, one gets a 3dB rise in the centre position.

Hi,

I had the feeling that the native Linux version was faster than the windows version under wine (through vst-bridge). Yet I haven't done accurate benchmark.

^ Thanks man! Looks promising!

Sure it is! :D

Thanks Urs. The original reason I discovered this was I tried to auto-pan an FM piano sound using LFO1 and I found the panning doesn't sound the way I would expect. Far too much time of the sound is spent with the sound near the stereo field center. I'll post a patch when I get home tonight so you can hear.

Urs, I stand corrected. I compared the panning between ACE and Bazille and they operate pretty much identically with similar modulation. :)

I should certainly hope the native version runs faster than the wine version! It should be more stable, reliable and responsive too - at least after its matured a bit.

It'd be interesting to see how much CPU/RAM 8 or so native instances uses versus a similar number of instances running via vst-bridge/wine.

I'll be buying the Uhe plugins when they get released for Linux. I'd like to think they'll generate enough interest to inspire more plugin devs to port their plugins too.

Great work Abique / Urs!

Hi

Just installed the new build for Bazille; are the new serials available or has beta closed now? I will of course be buying this in a week or so but a week with no modular goodness.....?
