Studio One 3 is taking up too much space here. :hihi: Let's talk about Reaper 5 for awhile.

Soon? This year? Next year? What cool stuff do you expect? My best friend's uncle's dentist's bookie said it will have scoring and some other cool stuff.

Post

It needs a new interface.

I expect you will see less and less new big features and more opening of the API, wont be long before all updates are done via extensions ;)
Duh

Studio One 3 + Reaper 5 = Cubase 8

Hopefully it will finally get VST3 support for one thing.

And an arrange tool to built a song from regions.
Like playordertrack in cubase. Exactly like that

I agree. With the new Roland Aira gear and the plug out synths requiring VST3 I would like to see Justin and Co get on board. Reaper is all I use anymore and version 5 I'm sure will be good.

Hopefully a sane set of default settings, shortcuts and behaviours.

Post

I'm wondering when reaper 6.0 pro will come out.

Not just that but there's no chance of implementing ARA without VST3 support, at least under the hood.

Post

Nope. ARA is separate from VST3, completely different thing (if you watch the log when Studio One is loading, you will see separate entries for "Loading VST3 support" and "Loading ARA support" - ARA is not tied to VST3 in any way). As far as ARA in Reaper, this is what schwa said about it:

"REAPER's AudioAccessor is almost identical to how the "audio random access" works in ARA, and if we do implement ARA it will use the existing AudioAccessor interface."

See? No VST3 necessary for ARA implementation. :)

ARA won't run at all in Tracktion or Studio One unless the VST3 is also scanned in - I tried disabling VST3 support in advanced settings in S1 and when I selected 'Edit in Melodyne' it told me it wasn't installed. When I reenabled VST3 support and restarted the app it worked fine again. Same in T5, if it can't see the VST3 it won't run Melodyne using ARA. I think ARA itself as a transfer protocol is something more than just VST3 but clearly it depends on the presence of the VST3 to function.

That would be the way those companies implemented it.
