Hey there is no real "sample and hold" LFO right? That would be cool and should be relatively easy to make?

Hmmm, what is that?

Its an LFO that produces a random value and holds it constant for a time defined by the reciprocal of the LFO frequency. I.e. if you have a S&H LFO at 2Hz it produces a new random value 2 times per second.

Hmm, isn't the existing Random mode in modulators better?

That is very good and has its purposes, too, but sometimes you need these abrupt steps. Modulating pitch or filter etc. with it you can do cool stuff with that.MeldaProduction wrote:Hmm, isn't the existing Random mode in modulators better?
BTW I found a picture of it:

CableChannel: Ok, I'll add the "abrupt changes" to to-do list for random mode.

Actually you can already do something similar with the random mode, if I use a step curve as transformation I get the abrupt changes between constant values. The only thing with this is that the values are always close to one another because the random feature works like that. It would be better if the values are truly random.

If I use a Saw wave, have all Filter Frequency Ranges at 0% and all Frequency controls at 0%, put the resonance on full, and use the main Frequency control to find say the 3rd or 4th harmonic of the Saw wave on a lower note of the keyboard, the current filter tracks the notes I play as I hear the 3rd or 4th harmonic on every note above it. Without any assigned note tracking I would expect the resonant frequency to remain at the same place as I play higher on the keyboard and the notes to get weaker as well, the rate of which depending on the falloff of the filter.MeldaProduction wrote:Breeze: I'm lost, there was no note tracking - or you mean MIDI? It's possible it was doing this before in the previous beta; I never actually checked myself. I commented about it based on GeorgeK's observations because that is the way filter tracking has always worked.
BTW, thanks fro the new "Fade" filters! (That was fast!)

My pleasure
.
Now, I'm a little lost in the description, but I think you didn't notice that the filter frequency always tracks the notes. I know in most synths the filter frequencies are contant, expressed in Hz. This seems just wrong to me. But it's definitely easier to implement... Anyway here the filter frequency is always related to actual note pitch, so that if you play C1 it has similar character to say C3. That just seems logical to me.

Its actually keytracking the filter frequency automatically also in the first release, I just checked.

Right; so it was the same in the previous version. It gets a little complicated now if someone wants to adjust keyboard tracking in the more traditional way as this basic tracking must be negated.MeldaProduction wrote:Now, I'm a little lost in the description, but I think you didn't notice that the filter frequency always tracks the notes. So let me ask you this: what settings of the Filter and Frequency Range for Filter and ByNote must be set so that the Filter's frequency no longer tracks the keyboard at all?

Well, this cannot be done. The solution would be to make the "By note / frequency" equal the total range of pitches of MIDI, but that is 10.5 octaves, but the limit here is 8 octaves. But if you are not too "extreme pedant"
, you can just set it to -8 octaves. I could disable it, but to be honest, it just doesn't seem right to me.
