The only way I can see it being fixed properly is implementing a "hide greater-than-stereo upmixing inserts" preference. Because sometimes you *do* want all the options, sometimes you don't need anything more than mono/stereo/mono-to-stereo.. Maybe the menu itself is a ten-minute fix, maybe not - but logging, fixing, testing, qualifying... Yes, this can takes months for the flagship product of a big company - even longer if it's not a priority.

Yes, it's an Avid problem. You're one of the few developers that offers large bundles of surround plug-ins, which is great.

Actually such menu is really simple and there's almost no testing at all involved... it just IS simple... My personal guess is that Avid's management is making everything slow...as always...

It's funny that throughout all the plugins that actually support surround sound, Melda's bundle is actually the only one with this problem of showing all available outputs of the plugin even though you're only using a stereo or mono track.... OH wait yeah.. they didn't actually use the sdk properly.. There's the proper way of building the plugin through the sdk, then there's trying to take shortcuts to save time and get the plugins out in all available format in one go, not realizing that, hey.. that might not bring out the best results.

Well, you should probably get the SDK before you start making such accusations ;). But since you asked, our plugins are the only ones that were able to expand stereo/mono TO surround. That's one of the many things Avid's developers apparently didn't think of. And we removed the support. In all other hosts it works, in PT it doesn't. And quite frankly, all this debate was about PT not being able to create a simply submenues...15 minutes of work for a medium experienced developer, so...

I actually Did ask Avid, as I work very closely to them Daily. That was their answer "If they had read the SDK doc properly they would have had their answer on how to do it right, from the start. Of course there was also the Developers Kitchen they could have attended to."

Post

I actually asked them directly several times, got no answer whatsoever, they just avoided answering me... And what is your answer about anyway? If the solution is "well, developers, sorry you cannot do stere->surround expansion, because we cannot create a simple menu, which is in other hosts for a long time?"... well, sorry but this way you don't do ProTools very good name. For the record, I read the super-over-complicated SDK myself several times...despite Avid wasn't able to help me themselves (for the record, my contact in Avid was very helpful in many other cases, just not this one... it tells you something...).

Anyway as I said, the user-friendliness is most important, so we just remove the support for stereo/mono->surround expansion... for the worst reasons ever...
