This is a newb question, I realize, but if it isn't too tedious for this thread, what is the proper way to assign basic vibrato to a patch in Serum via the mod wheel? I can assign an LFO to fine pitch and/or osc volume, but I wasn't able to figure out how to control that LFO's depth with the MW. Bet I'm missing something simple....

No problem, we all start somewhere.rustman wrote:This is a newb question, I realize, but if it isn't too tedious for this thread, what is the proper way to assign basic vibrato to a patch in Serum via the mod wheel? Go to the Matrix tab, and look for the column that says "Aux Source" and select the Mod Wheel there.
What you should have is an entire row that says:
LFO X -----> Amount -------> Osc Y Pitch -----> Mod Wheel

Thank you so much KB. That worked like a charm!KBSoundSmith wrote:

I "might" have a feature request for a point update sometime in the future:
The master volume changes don't appear to be saved with the patch. Some of the factory patches I've been auditioning are pretty hot, peaking the meters within Serum (maybe on purpose?). Could it possibly be that factory patches can't be saved under the same name if changes are made? I could understand not soiling the hard work of the patch designers and still being allowed to retain their carefully chosen patch names. My user patches ARE retaining their master volume settings when recalled.

Aaa-haaaah. That will save repeating it for possibly two Oscillators and a sub osc. Thank you Steve.bitcrusher wrote:Thank you so much KB. I can't remember what patch... or if it was one of my own that I was working on, but it happens 100% of the time if you init the patch, set aftertouch to modulate filter pitch, play a C 4 and then just start scrolling though the filters. Some are worse than others, the ones with a steeper cutoff are the most noticeable. I didn't check the 64 bit version of Serum.Ingonator wrote:Just checked with the Serum demo and the 64-bit VST2 plugin in Live 9.1.5 64-bit (at Windows 7 64-bit).zerocrossing wrote:I've found a pretty serious bug. I notice that when I assign aftertouch to something like filter frequency I get a lot of zipper noise/clicking. Anyone else having this? I'm in Live 9 32 in Windows 8 64.
No problem when assigning aftertouch to Cutoff here.
did you use a factory preset and if yes then which one? Maybe i could check it with that patch too.

this was exactly the problem. changed from running as administrator and it worked perfectly.4damind wrote:Maybe he is running FL as administrator? I noticed a similar thing when mapping AT to filter cutoff tonight as well. I tweaked the response curve on the modulation page just to see if I could smooth it out. In this case, I was having trouble making the cutoff smoothly controllable with AT. It seemed to be a bit jumpy, to the degree that I couldn't control it well. I didn't want to change the curve on my controller itself.zerocrossing wrote:I can't remember what patch... or if it was one of my own that I was working on, but it happens 100% of the time if you init the patch, set aftertouch to modulate filter pitch, play a C 4 and then just start scrolling though the filters. Edit: This may not be a fair issue to bring up. It might work perfectly with other controllers and/or AT controller curve settings. It's not a big deal breaker for me, but I thought I'd chime in.

I can't be sure I'm hearing what you're hearing. I have a rather subtle zippering here, there's no event smoothing on aftertouch and being that it's 7-bit means it could probably use some smoothing (like I provide for pitch bend, for example). I'll add it to the to-do list.I've found a pretty serious bug. I notice that when I assign aftertouch to something like filter frequency I get a lot of zipper noise/clicking.
... It seemed to be a bit jumpy, to the degree that I couldn't control it well. ...
This is my experience with AT in general, i'd much rather use a ribbon/wheel/knob or even foot control for expression stuff. I guess can understand the appeal to two-handed players but that's about it. Funny enough the only reason it's in Serum is I've seen AT mentioned enough here on KVR (in my circles of 'electronic' musicians I don't know anyone who uses it, well, intentionally)..
That's pretty cool, I had someone asking about a way to do this for VSTis in general, looks like a nice solution... thanks for sharing!randomize serum for waaaay out sounds

They should be able to be resaved, there's nothing "special" about factory preset files that would prevent overwrite. Maybe some sort of permissions snafu? You could change something obvious as a test, I'm not positive. There is an undocumented/unofficial feature (unofficial because it only works for items loaded from the Preset menu system) which is you can alt-click the preset save button to overwrite the loaded preset (it prompts you to ask you if you are sure).Could it possibly be that factory patches can't be saved under the same name if changes are made?
Really enjoying hearing all of the new sounds!

Adding to the upcoming overkill of Serum soundsets, here is the pre-order announcement for my first take, Sonic Tabulator, the KVR Soundware thread is here.
Sequels will follow, this synth is inspiring and fresh!
