After a bit over two years since the release of the RealGuitar 3 engine, the pool is getting a fourth guitar:
RealRick - a Rickenbacker Guitar VSTi.
But unlike RealLPC and RealStrat, which are one guitar in one VSTi, RealRick is going the route like RealGuitar Acoustic and offers 3 guitars times two (3x mono, 3x stereo).
RealRick offers:
- a Rickenbacker 6 sting
- a Rickenbacker 12 string (third string pair tuned in OCTAVE)
- a Rickenbacker 12 string (third string pair tuned in UNISON)
Since RealRick is built upon the RealGuitar 3 engine, you have access to all known features, including the Struminator Technology (playability of RealGuitar with a GuitarHero/RockBand controller).
RealRick is officially available from 26th October 2014 for 199USD (MSRP), with access to the demo already. Though if you buy any of the RG3 guitars until 25th September (read: this Thursday), you'll get a license of RealRick for free.
Also from staying in touch with the develoeprs, there is an update of the RG3 engine in the pipe, with even more features and more realism. Though sadly, no time frame for that yet.

A quick reminder that today is the final day to get "RealRick" for free if you buy any RealGuitar license.
Official release date is tomorrow. A fully working demo is available already.

Now that we have News coverage up and down, what are your thoughts on the new guitar VSTi?

Are you sure? Because I have an "old" demo, and the 12 strings were in it.
The 30day demo version is basically the full version sans the license.
Tried the dropdown in the middle of the VSTi yet?
The one that says "electric 6 strings"?
See

If yes and you can't select either of the 12 strings, then something is wrong and you should get in touch with the official support.
I'm just a mere Musiclab user myself, showing the VSTi's some love.

Yes, the drop down menu shows all choices but everything other than the first 6 string shows N/A (not available) must have full version for access. Musiclab PM'd me so I'm hoping to get a full working demo. From what I hear in the video, the 12 string sounds great but there are a lot of distractions with backing tracks & effects so I need to hear it in my quiet studio to see if it's as good as I think it is. Thanks for the response Compyfox.

Ah, I see where the problem is.
The demo version lacks the 12 string(s) and stereo versions, which I wasn't aware off. So it looks like the demo versions compared to the full version downloads (in demo mode) changed. This is of course a bit problematic if the main selling point of the Rickenbacker is the 12string mode.
Do you have a user account at Musiclab?
Did you check if you might have access to a different version?
Then again, you're in touch with the team already. Maybe they can sort something out for everybody. The alternative is: create a pattern in 6 string mode and ask the RG users if they might offer you a quick WAV render for you to run through amps.

You were correct, the demo download doesn't give you the 12 strings. Musiclab sent me the full download trial and all is well. I love the stereo 12 string. I definitely have use for that and I will purchase this when I get the funds. I used to own a Rickenbacher 360 12 string but sold it as it wasn't getting enough use. I buy software guitar VSTi's because there is definitely a place in my compositions to play these from a keyboard as a different approach. Obviously I also record real guitars when that is needed. Anyway, nice job Musiclab and thanks for the assist Compyfox.

Glad I could help. Though I'd love to hear feedback from more users.
Musiclab compared to other more recent VSTi and Kontakt libraries barely sees any love anymore.

I used Real Guitar for a long time but usually combined the picked nylon with a steel string. I've since moved to the Ample Sound AMG but even that can get thin in the higher registers. I do really like the stereo 12 string from Musiclab. I only spent 15 minutes with it this morning but I know it's good and will purchase it shortly.

I love the musiclab software. Sound samples have improved dramatically in other software as Musiclab seemed to be in hibernation, so it's great to hear they are working on updates. I know it has midi out but that doesn't always work perfectly so hopefully any updates will bring it in line with the quality heard in Ilya Efimov or amplesound.
I just love the strumming engine in realguitar. It is so intuitive.

I've been digging the RealRick v4 upgrade . . . well worth it. There are improvements to the sound and performance. The Song Global Mode is a composition dream. I like the direction Musiclab is going . . . it's very Toontrack-ish, which I consider a good thing. Simple, yet powerful tools for creating music! Great job Musiclab. I'm a proud user.
