The files have been converted, resampled per se. It's not really much different than Waves sampling those sounds from hardware units. Ultimately the wave shapes were originally created by Moog and company. Also, if a company doesn't want to make converting their wavetables so easy they can use a proprietary format. Personally I'd like to see the wavetable format standardized so that converting wasn't necessary to begin with. More wavetable options benefits all the synths that use them. In any case, I see no problem whatsoever.sonicpowa wrote:Do you have Waves permission to distribute these wavetables on the net freely? Had to doublecheck some wavetables if I did them correctly. Some of them are just.. well, meh.
(Check 58 to 62 for example. Almost half a table offset on the first position while the tables are really 512 samples)

Some of this tables having a very smooth analog sound, I think that's why Codex sounds a bit more "analog" but it's IMO not some component modelling or stuff.. this are the wavetables they have used (eg. this Classic No Res or this AnaBot is very nice).Mace404 wrote:Installed the Codex demo and converted the wavetables to Serum ^^

The good thing is, that it leaves enough space for 3rd party libraries or that Steve provides some different sets of wavetables in the future for a small fee for his customers.

That´s not the point, they still have the copyright for the wavetables of Codex. Just pointing that out.Greg Houston wrote:The files have been converted, resampled per se. They all sound good to me, but sadly the virus (the first one) sounded the best to me.C-note wrote:Best sounding in order:4damind wrote:I tried to program a typical saw pluck with the Virus XL, Serum (with Virus Wavetable), Sylenth, Spire (in this order). Yes, Sylenth sounds very good with this Unison sounds, Serum a bit more static and "solid". It reflects also the time needed to program this sound. The quickest with Sylenth followed by Serum.C-note wrote:Best sounding in order:4damind wrote:I tried to program a typical saw pluck with the Virus XL, Serum (with Virus Wavetable), Sylenth, Spire (in this order). They are not the original files. I manually converted them into Serum's format. The net is full of single cycle waveforms of other synths. Do those need permissions as well? (for example this: Classic Synthesiser wavetables for Serum)sonicpowa wrote:Do you have Waves permission to distribute these wavetables on the net freely? I don´t think they like it...
By any means I'll take them offline if its illegal but as far as I know it's not.

Just a quick note - Serum v1.01 beta4b is up for registered users in the Serum forum, with another dozen fixes (over 40 since v1.0) and some new features/enhancements (16-bit wav export and more).
I'll provide a new demo download in the next day or two as well.

sorry if this has been asked before but how does this compare with the Palm Wave generator?
I was planning on getting that but seeing this has given me pause for thought

That´s not the point either. If all you did was just a conversion, it´s sort of like I take Serum.exe and convert it to zip. Now it´s packed into a different format and I can freely distribute it how I want? No need to ask Xfer..? Im sure this kind of thinking is OK to you and many others but it´s still illegal. If you have created something you have a copyright for it. Without it it´s pretty pointless (for example Waves) to do a business and because of the business you have Codex, Serum, wavetables and other great stuff.. I´m only pointing out to respect that, not going to argue with this further.Mace404 wrote:They are not the original files. I manually converted them into Serum's format.
Edit: Well, the above example was not the best, but for it to work let´s pretend that Serum.exe doesn´t have copy protection.

A little 60s action for all you groovy cats.
The classic 60s transistor organ heard in many tunes of the time.
(Did you know the Monkeys didn't write those great tunes...And Steven Stills of CSNY was turned down to be one of those Monkeys....)

No, because you still have an unmodified file. Only containerized. And a bad example since software copyrights are in a way different ballpark than audio copyrights.sonicpowa wrote:I take Serum.exe and convert it to zip. Heh.. well, I know it was a bad example.Mace404 wrote:No, because you still have an unmodified file. Only containerized. And a bad example since software copyrights are in a way different ballpark than audio copyrights.
But you keep telling it is "modified". How it is modified if it´s exactly like the original but in a different format. I have a better example: A Beatles song (or whatever song) that is in hi-res Flac. I take it and convert it to wav or mp3, now I can distribute it freely because it´s "modified"?
