i am using the current version of t 5 on a pc, windows 7 professional. when i record a vst instument, like toxic biohazard synth, it records, but i can't change the volume level. i turn down the volume in the mixer(ish.) view and the track volume whwn the track is highlighted, but nothing. any suggestions?

Same here when playing back MIDI. The Volume & Pan plug-in seems to have no effect. This on 5.3.15, XP.
[W10-64, T5/6/7/W8/9/10/11/12/13, 32(to W8)&64 all, Spike],[W7-32, T5/6/7/W8, Gina16] everything underused.

Are you talking about adjusting the velocities of MIDI notes if routed to another track or externally? If so, click on the vol/pan plugin and you'll see an option to "Apply to MIDI Velocities", that should do what you're after.

no, just using the mixer for the track volume, or highlighting the track, then manually lowering the volume, neither work.

Sorry, I think I'm misunderstanding something here, if there is a problem obviously I'd like to get it sorted ASAP so if you could tell if the following works that would be a great help!
1. Create a new, blank Edit
2. Add an audio file of any type as a new clip
3. Find the volume/pan plugin on the track with the newly created clip
4. Drag the volume up and down whilst playing the clip
Does this not affect the volume of the clip?
The only thing I can of is that you have a synth placed after the volume plugin? If this is the case the gain won't be applied to the output of the synth. If you could give me some exact steps to reproduce the problem that would be a huge help.

i put the vst instrument after the volume. i did'nt know it would cause the volume to be ineffective. so, drag an instrument in front of the vol/pan control to use volume and pan for that track?

Yes, in Tracktion the track plugins are serial so they get processed in turn, left to right. You can also have multiple vol/pan plugins on one track so their position is important.
Glad you got to the bottom of it.

Yep, it actually flows quite logically. For instance, you could probably place 2 volume controls with, say, echo in between. First one controls the level INTO the echo, and the second one the level for the output from the echo and into the master mix. (the first one doesn't really make sense, but it would illustrate the point). Everything left to right...
