thanks yes I agree Dune is not bad here also (I did use the wintage sawtooth wavetable) - but it explains what I mean re sylenth being more 'analogue' and I suspect the simple example shows perhaps why so many people like to use Sylenth for their unison synth style sounds...Urs wrote:Very good example. I agree that Sylenth sounds strongest in this, but not necessarily the most pleasing. The Dune example doesn't seem to have full stereo panning, it sounds like voices are spread evenly in the stereo panorama.analoguesamples909 wrote:it might be similar to sylenth in functionality but the sound of sylenth is quite distinct - and more analogue modelled than people think...Im not certain but I get the idea that Hive is set up to be a more digital hypersaw synth which could perhaps be more like Dune...here is a comparison to show its not just the detune that makes a difference but the Osc also. Serum is matched to Sylenth using a OB8 saw wavetable...

Urs here is another decent investigation into Sylenth unison sound...
https://www.gearslutz.com/board/electro ... ht=sylenth
again it showed me for some reason Sylenth sounds the best - at least to my ears...Im hoping you can get to the bottom of it and best it with Hive!

yes but in my comparison I used dune 2 and IMO sylenth still sounds preferable...whats interesting is the different implementations in something that you might expect is simple...actually they all sound slightly different and for some reason IMO sylenth sounds the better...hence its ubiquity...even when its now rather dated,...

I actually REALLY like the teased hive GUI.
I think I'm getting closer and closer to using u-he for everything.
I don't even own satin, diva, or MFM yet (just zebra, bazille, uhbiks, ACE, and filterscape)

Analoguesamples909's examples are pretty much what I was thinking of when I suggested it would be quite easy to misjudge the sound of this synth. The Sylenth example actually sounds pretty distorted, but maybe that's what people actually want?
At this stage, if U-He port all their plugins to Linux, the sheer breadth of them could actually make Linux a genuinely viable platform for professional musicians.MitchK1989 wrote:I think I'm getting closer and closer to using u-he for everything.![]()

I really liked the first one, the second one much less so.MitchK1989 wrote:I actually REALLY like the teased hive GUI.
But it will work well enough i am sure so i am more interested in some more audio from it.
Andy is a support ninja.

Me too, but after a few more iterations, I told Basti to drop work on the first one and concentrate on the second. Once you see the whole thing it's stunning.uselessmind wrote:I really liked the first one, the second one much less so.MitchK1989 wrote:I actually REALLY like the teased hive GUI.

I'm much better at tweaking someone else's patches than creating new ones from scratch, though I find Sylenth's set up of having to switch tabs to see them both very discouraging to patch creation/tweaking (and probably my biggest gripe about Sylenth: patch management).Urs wrote:In Hive you have a Dual-VCO-VCF-VCA synth on the right and another Dual-VCO-VCF-VCA synth on the right. In Sylenth1 you need to switch tabs to see them. We squeezed them onto a single panel, without looking too overwhelming.blue monk wrote:Like Sylenth 1, the Oscillator 1 and 2 are on opposite sides of the GUI.
Ignoring any aesthetic aspects, I think this is annoying to work with. Linplug MorphoX is excellent regarding usablility.
The trick is, our second VCO in each section is a Suboscillator with less controls. Yet it can be used almost entirely like an oscillator of its own (it just inherits a lot of parameters from the main osc).
That said, I'm an industrial designer, so Mr. Sullivan's phrase means a lot to me - even though I don't always fully agree. Be assured that Hive is going to be exceptionally ergonomic. It follows Ludwig Mies' mantra, or rather, it's modern version "reduced to the max".

It IS discouraging. Nevertheless the most important feature of Sylenth is its distinctive (unique) sound. That's why I still use it sometimes.

I was curious about this new synth but at $149 I will be very happy to pass (expected it to be in the ACE ballpark). It seems that the strange obsession with sylenth1 extended to the inappropriate feature/price ratio for 2014/2015
