Quick question here. In the editor, or the generator, how can I select all the notes and increase the velocity of each hit proportionally? Seems that I have to do each note individually. I want to keep the dynamics, but just increase it all at once. Can I do this?

Post

Well you can only change at once one column.
But anyway if you select all notes and draw an horizontal line all will be at the same "volume" if you haven't drunk when you draw ^^

That's the question. I want to keep all the velocities relevant. I want to increase them all at the same time, but i don't want them all maxed out. Has to be a way to do this.

I'm not finding a way to do it. Perhaps select all > Ctrl-Shift > increases all velocities? Or more specifically, Ctrl-Shift increases/decreases velocity of selected notes? In essence I want to increase or decrease the overall velocity of the entire beat/break/long/break, etc. But it seems that I have to do one note at a time, and it's impossible to maintain the original dynamics this way.

Hmmm, that's not there I'm afraid, I'll add it to to-do list, low-priority, we'll see. It was never meant to work like this - the idea was to use some predefined velocities (that's why the 3 default velocity defaults) and then use the overall velocity range for the rhythm, so the drummer plays "lower" for lower levels etc.

Could it be like in Reaper's midi editor with any midi file, you just select a bunch of notes then drag one of the vertical velocity bars down..all the selected notes go down, keeping their relative values.
This would be good for fine tuning specific loops. :tu:

Well, sometimes I drag fills (breaks) into MD from my EZ Drummer folder, and the velocities are always way off. If I could select all the notes from that break, and lower it all at the same time to match the velocities of the rest of the beats/breaks, that would be a real time-saver.

I know that you have it designed so it plays quieter in the first verse, a little louder in the second, and louder still in the chorus. But I listen to tons of music, as I'm sure we all do, and I'm not sure I believe this is how it really is. Listen to an AC/DC song, for example. I don't hear the drums getting louder during the choruses. Or any other band, for that matter, unless of course the song is specifically written that way.

I would just like to have a bit more control over the overall velocity of each beat, break, etc. We can already select all the notes in a given beat or break. Would it be a programming nightmare to make it so when we adjust something in the bottom bar, it affects all the selected notes? Not just velocities, either. We could set probability or offset for multiple notes instead of one at a time. I'm no programmer, so I don't know what's involved there. I personally think it would be just another option/tool to make MD even more versatile. Thanks!

Ok, added to to-do list. For the record, you can disable the velocity differences simply by setting velocity range to say 100%..100%.

Thanks! That would be sweet. Where do I change the velocity range? from the Additional section of the Rhythm Editor?

Post

It's in additional rhythm playback settings (next to random loops and stuff).

Hey Ed, you can do this!
You need to be in selection mode rather than pencil or eraser mode.
Select all the notes you want to change, then change the value in the box over on the right. All the selected notes change but keep their relative values (err..proportionality).
Works for all the other parameters as well.

Hey you can! I was trying to do it below. That's really helpful. Thank you very much!

Damn, you are right, it works! And I calling myself "an expert in MDrummer" didn't know that :o :D

Perhaps you :hyper: have been distracted with the insanity of MMegaMonsterSynth. :hihi:

Yeah, well, I'm now distracted by over 70 insane plugins, but still, I should remember everything :D...well, getting older :D

I have mixed emotions about the creator of the software not knowing everything it does. I have to wonder if this thing is taking on a life of its own. Maybe when you're sleeping, this thing is writing code to itself. Hell for all we know MD is reading these posts and saying "low priority my ass! This is going in NOW! " hehehe at any rate I can work with this just fine, so no changes needed! I'll find something else to bitch about soon enough!
