Minimonsta was my favorite soft synth not too too long ago. It's not nearly as authentic as some of the current competitors, but I still love it.

Bit frustrating that they opted for a pre-release price instead of an introductory price. I'd like to give it a demo before I commit to a purchase but to do that I have to miss the better price. Looks like I'll be waiting this one out for the time being. GForce make great stuff though, so I'd be pumped to get it if it's as good as it looks. Polyphony forever!!!

Thought the same thing. They even removed the demo for version 1

This is from the FAQ on their website concerning Oddity 2.blortblort wrote:.
but there is NO mention about changes to the preset management, and for me, that's the main thing that's kept me from doing more with the Oddity.
Is the patch management the same as original Oddity?
Yes, but with the addition of a Quick Save.

It's annoying. Do they specify what the price will become once the pre-release period is over? I don't see it listed but I could easily be blind. It looks cool but I'm not spending $150 (technically a bit over, I'm Canadian) in hopes that everything will be as it should.fluffy_little_something wrote:Thought the same thing. I have to agree, how many Vst EMU's are there now that completely stray away from the original concept ? If something is supposed to be a genuine emulation, then why add things ?penguinfromdeep wrote:They should make it sound like real odyssey with new techniques instead.

Oddity 1 is a very good emulation of the Odyssey, especially when you consider how long ago it was released. It even reproduces Arp Odyssey patch sheets.
All I can expect from a version 2 is a higher resolution sound engine and 0dff filters to bring it in line with the current generation modeling from developers like XILS, U-he and TAL.

Well, the Oddity v1 did take a fairly purist approach to emulation, using the best techniques available at the time. I find it perfectly acceptable to add a polyphonic mode now. You don't have to switch to that mode if you don't want to, but having it opens up a lot of new possibilities. I'm sure ARP would have done the same, had it been feasible at the time. I'm not sure if I can make the same argument for extra envelopes and lfos, but I'm happy to have them!Maomoondog wrote:I have to agree, how many Vst EMU's are there now that completely stray away from the original concept ? I'd like them to keep the old sound really, not make a new Odyssey emulation. It still sounds great and Oddity is also a classic now.
And filters? We have The Drop, hard to match that.

If it's of any interest I found the release pricing so people know how much they save by preordering:
Release Pricing - From 1st December, 2014
Oddity2 - £139.00 inc VAT (US $187.00 approx)
Oddity2 Upgrades from Oddity - £75.00 inc VAT (US $99.00 approx)

Yeah as much as I like this synth, I'll admit the sound doesn't really hold up to some of the newer analog emulations like Diva and Monark, but it's still quite good uses very little cpu. The filters are very nice, though it doesn't quite have the punch of some synths. Still nice and buttery. Plus I love duo phonic mode with Ring Mod so it's nice to have a few varieties of that (Diva and impOscar also).

I wanted to write the same thing, but you did it for medeastman wrote:Well, the Oddity v1 did take a fairly purist approach to emulation, using the best techniques available at the time. The original was not perfect. Why would a company not improve its products and try to survive? An original is not something holy and untouchable sitting in a museum. It is just a piece of hardware that was not perfect to begin with.
I am sure they retained the sound character of version 1, probably got even closer to the original. And for those who want, they can now use additional features, but nobody has to if they are purists. All the new stuff can be turned off.
I think TAL should do the same with their Juno emulation, they should upgrade it and add stuff, for instance an additional, independent oscillator that allows for semitone detuning, an additional envelope, etc.

Are you talking about version 1 or 2? I mean, version 2 is not even out, yet, so how could you reach such a verdict?Echoes in the Attic wrote:Yeah as much as I like this synth, I'll admit the sound doesn't really hold up to some of the newer analog emulations like Diva and Monark, but it's still quite good uses very little cpu. I never bought Oddity as I had Korg Legacy Collection, FM7, VSM which gave me more than enough sounds I needed.
Well I couldn't resist the positive reviews so I recently bought Monark and decided to give Oddity another test run. After spending some time with the demo I came to the conclusion that it has the punchiest and most hardware character to anything I've ever tried. It just takes some tweaking. It is so full of character and was the only synth that could replicate a single oscillator + LFO from my Mopho - a particular patch I have tried to copy with my synths and a few demoed synths.
I bought the VSM in a sale so was keeping an eye out for other Geforce sales to purchase Oddity - well it will have to be second hand or Oddity 2 now.
A great synth, but with any upgrade I always look at the improvement list to see if the oscillators, filters and basic components have been improved?
