Are you talking about version 1 or 2? I mean, version 2 is not even out, yet, so how could you reach such a verdict?
Talking about 1 but the list of improvements is pretty comprehensive for 2 and it is safe to say that there had been improvements to the sound itself beyond the different filter modes, it would have been mentioned for sure. So of course I don't know about 2 yet but it seems the basic sound emulation engine will be the same. I love the sound, just don't find it to have the same kind of bite as some others.It's got it's own kind of sound though, which is fine.

A VSTi emulation of a famous synth with so many additional features that it is no longer a real emulation is, in a way, to exploit (and profit from) the fame of the original synth.

I don't think that accusation is appropriate.

It's simply evolution, which the original hardware might have undergone itself.
Since version 2 is clearly based on version 1, despite the additions, it would make no sense to force a different user interface and name on it. In my view that would indeed be wrong, it would be like sampling a piece of a song and not writing it on the cover.

Would also be interesting to hear what the makers of the original hardware have to say about it, if they are still alive. I assume they might like version 2 a lot.

Yeah the Numan track was cool... I know I don't need another synth, but this looks like a huge improvement. :)

Just buy it or don't. All this philosophical belly button scratching about perceived corporate despicable intentions is pointless. Take off the tin foil hat and enjoy their great plugins. Dave is not trying to trick you into buying his plugin. Geez, get some perspective.

The only thing I don't like is that one is forced to buy without demoing in order to benefit from the introduction price...

Note that Oddity isn't call Odyssey, it is called Oddity

With such a name, the devs are allowed to play around with developing it further IMO

As a beta-tester for Oddity2 and a fussy bugger to boot, I can say that regardless of the extras (some of which are great, like the XLFO) it is perfectly useable authentically if that tickles your fancy. It can still do the raw Odyssey if you so desire. For instance both Dave and me were adamant that the duophonic mode remain unadulterated, so stick it in duo mode, don't use the extras and away you go. Personally I love the extras as they don't detract from the original sound. And you get the benefit of having all filter types available.

I will say another thing I banged on about with the original Oddity (apparently I had the very first Oddity ever shipped by Dave) was that the portamento wasn't quite right. This has been addressed in Oddity2 and now those Numan/Currie dive bombs sound spot on.

I have three banks of patches - the first two adapted from Oddity1 and a whole new bank. Not sure if they're going to appear in the factory release. If not I'll make them available somewhere.

Has the sound quality of the oscillators and filters been improved? Oddity 1 was great but analogue emulations have gotten noticeably more authentic since it's release.

Hopefully you were reading my post in context... I think you were, but just to be sure I'm on GeForce's side here.

We have all this wonderful stuff, that might as well be free compared to hardware costs, that people put hundreds of man hours into and then someone bitches about something that is so irrelevant to the point of absurdity. I know this is the internet, and stuff like that is pretty much mandatory.

I'm not sure if there is a way to categorize the naming of a VSTi below that of a "1st world problem" or not. We need to invent a category like "f**king hit yourself in the head with a hammer until you no longer care about this issue you brought up".
