Here is another example of the filters then, not unique but still good.

I agree, I did mention the envelopes earlier. IMO that is the real standout feature. Even simple patches are punchy. It's just extremely fast and responsive.
I concur with this too.

I think that unless you spend time creating 'that' type of music you won't inherently get why Sylenth became so popular.

The drive and envelope/filters do have a certain snap.

Forgive me for putting this in here, but the first patch in this demo is exactly the kind of sound I'm talking about, and one that I often find difficult to replicate in other synths.

Sorry, just changed it. That's an old bank that's no longer available in that form so I had it private :dog:

I'd love to see modal synthesis in Z3.

i hate to say it but i dont think those bells sound very good. Just in terms of sound quality...and no the mp3 isnt changing what im hearing...unless the mp3 is a 96 kbps type thing. I really hope hive has some oversampling option or something to make the sounds more hi fi. just my 2 cents. I think u-he makes the best sounding synths on the market...dont want that to change with this release.

Oversampling won't help in that case.

The bells were done with a very rudimentary test environment that I coded in two days. I think it needs another month of fine tuning, so we rather drop that idea for now, and bring it back later, maybe elsewhere.

I'll post proper example mp3s in a few days.

So what exactly is modal synthesis? Is it mainly used for physical modeling? The only time I've seen it mentioned is with some reaktor synths.

It's about constructing a sound with a large number of resonators that do a single frequency each, as opposed to using delay lines (or wavetables). As each resonator operates at its own frequency it can do non-harmonic overtones to any fundamental frequency. It's therefore good for natural sounds such as bells and mallets.

I don't like it all that much myself sound wise. It is well behaved with gain and drive though... it is nicely crafted and level balanced making it easy to use.

Ok thx for the response urs

Spot on. It seems that the combination of the limits of technology combined with availability and low cost of plugins have fostered a generation of EDM that doesn't use filters in a way that exposes their weaknesses, so, people think that many older synths that have filters that sound good producing the kinds of sounds that don't push the filters, have decent filters when, in fact, by today's standards, the filters are quite average.

We try. I think Rob will work something out somehow.
