Fortunately I am still loving it.
Even if you don't like the sound (I do but I know some don't), the GUI is a work of art imho.

Yes, Dune2 sounds softer/smoother than Spire or Sylenth. More like the trance sound of 2004 than 2014 (for me it's not a bad thing).chk071 wrote:IMO, Dune 2, just like version 1, suffers a bit from the "close but no cigar" thing when it comes to typical EDM sounds. I did some typical supersaw and pluck sounds with the Dune 2 demo, but i wasn't impressed. Spire e.g. is not only better, but much better in that regard. Don't get me wrong, i'm sure Dune 2 is a good synth, and for pad sounds, it's probably one of the best, but for EDM specific stuff, it wouldn't be my first choice. But that was already the case with version 1, and it's fair enough for a version 2 to follow the line of the predecessor.themachinelt wrote:People talking Hive should be Sylenth1 replacement. Wasnt Synapse Dune 2 supposed to be "SYLENTH1 Killer?" ? it has low CPU usage and gorgeus sound + 32 voices. I think there were some other synths "killers" who already killed Sylenth1 before Dune2 (Spire?)?All in all, it's more on the softer side of sound IMO, and sometimes you just need more raw- or brutalness.
However the last demo on this page shows that Dune2 can be pretty brutal.

Fwiw, DUNE 2 was only released in May this year, so it's not even been out a full year.recursive one wrote:Despite its brutal CPU load, Spire is becoming very poplular, it is apparently close to get the status of "default EDM synth", which Sylenth has owned for years.themachinelt wrote:People talking Hive should be Sylenth1 replacement. I wonder why this does not happen to Dune2. The first Dune has was big, there were many soundsets for it, but the second one doesn't have such attention. Maybe, due to its complexity it is harder to find sweet spots, I dunno. Or maybe because Dune2 tends to sound lush and soft, while modern dance music relies on angry distorted tones.
Spire, for instance, was released almost exactly a year before that, so it's obviously had more chance to grow.
However, it is of course becoming more difficult to compete in a market that is always growing, not only in quantity, but also quality. Sylenth1 has really set a standard that way.

Well Spire fits just more to current needs, specially EDM related. And flexible too. Also the developer has made a great job with the factory sounds and followed in-house soundsets for it.eXode wrote:Fwiw, DUNE 2 was only released in May this year, so it's not even been out a full year.recursive one wrote:Despite its brutal CPU load, Spire is becoming very poplular, it is apparently close to get the status of "default EDM synth", which Sylenth has owned for years.themachinelt wrote:People talking Hive should be Sylenth1 replacement. For Dune2 is not really much soundfood out there, which fits the current EDM trends so good, as Spire sets does.

I initially thought that Urs should do an open beta for fine tuning the sound of Hive, but to hell with that, just send Aiyn Zahev, Tehlord and Rob Lee copies. If they think it competes well with Sylenth, Spire and the hypersaw in the TI, then that's all the opinions you should need.

I was initially one of those people but I found several tricks that really do wonders to warm up the sound.zvenx wrote:Fortunately I am still loving it.

Hm, i figure that would delay the release quite siginificantly, wouldn't it?ddeez wrote:Nah urs should do a open beta!

hehe, we don't even have an internal beta with the full feature set. This might change within the next two weeks though.
