to uninstall MPowerSynth

Hi,
I have tried the beta demo version of MPowerSynth and as I don't like it, I have run the uninstall program. The problem is that it remains 262 files (some presets xml files) in C:\ProgramData\MeldaProduction as well as a "Data" folder with 142 help files in it...
I may delete the whole meldaProduction folder, but I use the demo version of MAutoDynamicEQ, and I think there are some common files, that's really messy...
What I may do, if I decide to buy the EQ, I may unsintall the demo version of the EQ, delete completely this folder, and install the EQ retail version... but well, I don't like to let a lot of unused stuff on my hard drive.

Hi, please just leave the files there. This folder is NOT supposed to be accessed by you. Of course, you may destroy all files and reinstall the plugins you want, but these small files do not preset a danger of any kind and messing with them otherwise is more like hacking. If you do access them, well, it's up to you, but sooner or later you'll end up with a problem.

Hello
Thank you for your response.
I have noticed it also remains some files in C:\users\<myName>\AppData\Roaming\MeldaProduction
I still have a Mpowersynth folder with 40 files inside as well as a MmultibandDelay folder with 9 files (I tried this one too)
Well, I know these files are not dangerous but at the end of the uninsitall process you display a message saying that the software has been succesfully removed, and it may remain a few files which can be deleted without causing any trouble, so I checked, and well it seems some files are shared so I cannot detete them...
If some files are not used any more, they should be removed by the uninstall routine no ?
But well, I also found some Valhalla and presonus unempty folders (I tried some of their demos too)
The problem is that I try to keep my computer clean because I use acronis true image to make some ghost copies of my system, and I have a SSD for the system and a regular HD for the data, so I regularly copy the data disk, and the system disk only after an install or an up-date. But with these software writting some stuff everywhere (no just yours) I just don't know what I have to save... Now, I have created a ghost copy of my User folder (the windows one) but maybe there are some stuff in ProgramData too
Thank you for your response.

Hi,
basically these things are custom data. The software cannot know you won't install it in the future (e.g. you may be just updating it) and so it leaves the presets & settings with it. These are generally just text files, nothing harmful. I'd recommend keeping it all there, it's not big, so it's just fine to include it on your system images.

Sadly a lot of (so called) uninstall routines don't really uninstall all the stuff they installed before, I noticed that with a lot of music and other software...maybe ok with some files, but if you have installed a lot of programs this 'feature' can become annoying....Tchandra wrote: The problem is that I try to keep my computer clean because I use acronis true image to make some ghost copies of my system, and I have a SSD for the system and a regular HD for the data, so I regularly copy the data disk, and the system disk only after an install or an up-date. Ok I see, it makes sense. The software cannot know you won't install it in the future (e.g. you may be just updating it) and so it leaves the presets & settings with it
Regarding the ghost image, well sorry it is actually a different topic than the uninstall thing, my previous post was maybe confusing. I mean, for example, I really like the way the u-he installer works, you have to define a path for the vst dll , and another path for the data folder (which will contain the manual, the GUI files, the presets and so on). For my ghosting procedure, it is very handy because I know I just have to copy the data folder to save my personnal data, but with most softwares which write some preset, init, log files and so on in many different places that cannot be defined by the user, you have to copy your whole system regularly, otherwise you're not sure you won't have a compatibility problem or some missing data after a back-up.
@2ZrgE : well I think they are very cautious. I miss the time I was using a linux OS, the debian dependency tree deals with that perfectly, it should be the standard now, but well Microsoft...

Understand. Well, technically, unless you do configure styles, create your own presets etc. you can just destroy anything and then just reinstall what you need. But technically from OS design perspective, these are the correct directories to have your data in. It also saves you from having a trouble when searching for the data - you basically always know where it is as the OS knows it.
