Yes, I did do a search first but am still none the wiser!!

I have heard and seen numerous mentions of u-he Berlin Modular but am a little confused. Some posts seem to insinuate that Berlin Modular IS Bazille, other posts lead me to believe that Berlin Modular is a whole new mega modular synth that is still being created while other posts hint that Berlin Modular is the collective name of the overall group of u-he synths currently available.

So, simple question.... what IS Berlin Modular?

I am hoping it is some mega u-he project that will incorporate ideas, modules and concepts from all the current u-he synths and will be something like a full Moog modular or Synthesizers.com synth in that it will be fully customizable and expandable up to the limits of the CPU running it.
In other words, we can start with an empty rack and add modules freely until we run out of CPU.

Am I in the ballpark here or way off base?

We hope for the same.

Our concept has always been something like 10+ module slots with a selection of 10+ module types each. And a big sequencer. Back then I got distracted by the Bazille concept and the idea of doing a bundle of fixed structure modulars instead. ACE then kind of preserved that idea for a while, until Diva came up and the idea of exchangable modules came back. Now we've gotten Bazille out of the door and we're back to the original concept.

Nevertheless, we're still really scared about CPU issues. Hence we currently work on a CPU friendly synth in-between, to keep you guys distracted until the time is ripe. And also, to clear our name as CPU smokers (despite all efforts, Intel has not yet offered us a provision on their sales. Not even a meager 1% percent. Hive is our retaliation for that, it'll play nicely on a 10 year old CPU)

That was a super fast reply Urs and was exactly what I was hoping to hear! :tu:
If anyone is going to do a virtual modular monster properly, it would have to be u-he.

I can foresee building a dedicated computer, controller, audio interface and display for Berlin Modular. Even building multiple dedicated computers and linking them together would be feasible, powerful and significantly more cost effective than doing it all with hardware only. I could imagine a bunch of large, multi point touchscreen monitors, DC capable audio interfaces (so CV and gate signals could be achieved on physical patch points) and MIDI keyboard controllers all linked up to form a hybrid hardware/software polyphonic modular.

OK, I'm getting carried away with my imagination here..... but it really would be a doable thing and that somewhat excites me!! :D

A small side note: A week or so ago, I set up a new website dedicated to synthesizers and, in particular, my synth music. I've just started writing some articles on synth repair (the first one is about repairing Roland Juno 106 80017A chips) and will be adding more about customizing hardware synths shortly.
The reason I'm mentioning the site here though is because I just added a links section and wanted to let you know I've added a u-he link there.
The new site URL is Synthesizers.Audio

One more thing, I've noticed that some of the galleries on your site are not working here. I checked using multiple browsers in case it was a browser issue but no go.
Here's the pages that aren't showing galleries:

I sometimes can't sleep because of similar thoughts.

Cool 8)

Ooops, indeed. I've seen it a few weeks ago, I'll bring it up with Rob. It's probably because either Mootools or JQuery was thrown out of our system. Or both.

Thanks,

- Urs
