The simple but hugely powerful performance XY panels is the huge juicy cherry on top...

PS - please give Bazille this XY performance power too, and actually all other synths by default. It will not detract from any of their respective core ideas/purposes/aural aesthetics, nor will it convolute what they're about. XY performance panels should be mandatory on all synths :)

+1

XY Macros and maybe a morph between them

I don't believe much in magic, but we're indeed trying to add something like a distinct character to Hive, or rather, a set thereof. I'll go into more detail once this part of development is finished, maybe next week.

Urs, I have just finished reading this lengthy thread and can't wait to throw more of my money at you for when this thing comes out...the only things I would like to add is 1. if there is a modulation matrix page please add something to the UI ala massive that shows parameters have been tweaked by envelopes/lfos etc. (possible colour code behind each modulation type highlighting the knobs) this is one thing I hate about synth master 2 and the only thing that makes it the one synth i bought I never use. After I return to a complicated preset I have created I have to read a 3 foot long sales receipt looking tab to find where the modulation is coming from to what (one of the reasons I love bazille so much as its so apparent). and 2. if there is some detuning done to the super saws would love to have a visualization of what is happening to the voices ala serum/access virus's way of showing the lines spreading apart further with large amounts of detune and different heights of the lines as per each voicing's pitch (i believe i saw u said the pitch will not be able to be changed but hope you will rethink that. I could be wrong as I am pretty tired and it was a lot of info to take in ahha). can't wait!

As The Hive is announced as a 'single page synth' I'm not sure if this colour coding thing like Massive or Serum is really necessary, especially if this (indeed lovely) feature would cost CPU (both Massive and Serum take a lot of CPU on my machine, compared to Zebra for example).

After Bazille... u-he is going to release the ultimate Virus killer ... HIV :hihi:

supernova wrote:One question for u-he: To me the JP-80x0 features an unparalleled supersaw that was tried to be "copied" by many but quality-wise (subjectively) they all sounded plain, sterile and boring (until the Diva got inspired by it :hyper: maybe one day you'll consider getting inspired from a certain infectious synth as well *wish* :ud: ) because their oscillators probably were just multiple detuned, rather perfect saws whereas the JP-80x0 does some magic to it that is hard to describe in words and even harder to pinpoint what it actually is. The EQ then does some additional magic to it that to me sounds like more than just an ordinary shelf-EQ. Now the question: Will the Hive do some sonic "magic" to the supersaw, or in other words, will it have a distinctive character?
The JP8k supersaw has been completely reverse engineered and understood. It's in Diva. There are some very well written documents floating around on the web that talk about the supersaw. The factors that contribute to the sound are (a) naive aliasing oscillators to give a bright and noisy sound, (b) a distinct logarythm-esque detune curve, and (c) a highpass filter tracking the notes you play, to dissolve all of the crust coming from those aliasing oscillators which would otherwise muddy up the low end.

I doubt the bass and treble EQ's on the JP8k are anything more than simple shelves, as their engineers had to be very economical with their... engineering.

There's also Roland's "Super chorus" in the effects section. This is really good on the supersaw (not surprising really given the name) and I'd welcome attempts to reverse engineer that!

man I hope this thing is gonna be available soon or at least more media... I am going crazy waiting on this and wondering when my beta key is gonna expire on press work and I have to buy it hahaha I bet those two things are gonna happen simultaneously and my wallet is gonna get reamed.

makes sense not to release 2 betas at same time, business wise

Uhe often have several public betas at the same time, their business is fine.

Well, we have never had more than one new product in a year. This year it somehow is 3. As work on Presswerk and Hive can mostly go side by side, it may just so happen that two public betas of fresh products might overlap for a few weeks.

But of course Zebra 3 is going to be released before xmas. We just haven't decided which year.
