Bazille patch: scalable resonance

One thing I've wanted in Bazille is the ability to turn up and down (in amplitude) the resonant portion (or maybe any portion) of the wavecycle. So you can, for example, create mildly resonant sounds, rather than simply having CZ resonance on or off.

Here's a patch that sort of kludges it, by using Osc 2, scaled by the pitch wheel, to it's-self scale the resonant part of the waveform.

Originally I planned on using a squarewave to isolate and switch out the rez portion, but that created a lot of overtones as it was applied (due to creation of sharp transients), but I found that by lowering the PD amount on the switching oscillator, and fiddling with it's phase, I could slide the switch wave right into place. You can't do THAT on an old analog with freerunning, drifting oscillators :hihi:

Included is the patch in case anyone's interested. Notice that while this IS scaling the resonance quite effectively, it doesn't sound quite like a normal resonant filter, but rather something entirely different. Mostly because our starting point is a wave with resonance applied to it every other cycle, and it's THAT which is being messed with.

Thanks for this Sendy :)

All the sound design talk is kind of like voodoo to me :hihi: but
I like the sound of your patch.

It has a very "clear" sound to it, and even though I haven't
used it in a track yet (no, I'm not that fast) it sounds like
something that will be easy to use in a mix. And a good
starting point for some of my further "trial and error"
patching.

Cheers :tu:

Glad someone found it useful!

It is one of my templates so yes, a great place to start tweaking, you can change the waveforms and octaves of the oscillators for a wide variety of effects, because of the oscillator interactions.

Regarding the terminology, my explanations might not be the best, since I'm almost entirely self-taught :hihi:

Hey cool stuff, thanks for the tip, now I'll try to apply on filter resonance! :)

Interesting changes while messing with Osc2 wave, PD and fractal resonance...

To keep the OSC2 mod under control while playing with fractal res especially, before AM-ing OSC1 go though a 0.20 lag gen

added: here's what I've been playing with inspired by "carving" resonance...
