MCompare question

Hey guys, wonder if you could clarify this for me. When you say: "[MCompare] ...lets you compare your master to [...] different stages of your mastering chain..." do you mean you can compare a mix in a project before the master channel plugin chain with what is after the chain in realtime? Or do I first have to have the mix rendered as a file, to load it into MCompare?
kind regards

Yep, that's the Case 2 in the docs
. Basically you use 2 instances - 1 to generate source 1 and the other one you use for monitoring and just press the "Source 1" button repeatedly to switching between unprocessed mix and the master

Very well crafted plugin!
If I may suggest two things, that I feel could improve it even a little more:
1. "Always start at Marked Position"-option for the File Players to restart at fixed reference-song-position every time.
2. Plugin Output Volume Knob at the end of the plugins internal signal path. When comparing a Mix with the Mastered version, the mix is usually turned up quite a lot by the ALC. That often result in peaks way above 0dB and distortion. If both, the source and the master, could be turned down equal amounts, this would not be an issue any more.
But nonetheless this is imho the best comparison plugin out there and I´m glad I waited till someone did it right.
Thanks a lot.

Thank you!
1. You mean when you switch to a certain file? Hmm, I guess it may be handy, but personally I don't think that's such a good idea. Anyway a switch is possible of course.
2. Actually I was thinking about it before, but I discarded for a simple 2 reasons - first, there's not much place in the GUI
, and mainly from the scenarios it is basically just for mastering, where you can just use the master fader, it will be the last thing on the chain.

Agreed, I get your point.
best regards.
PS: How about a utility plugin, that cuts audio throughput when DAW starts playback? Very cool for recording narration for video tutorials
and for Talkback Mic Channel.
...plus maybe a switch that flips it around so that audio throughput is cut when DAW stops. Good for e.g. long Delay FX Return Channels with high feedback or so.
..and if you want to get really crazy, just add attack, release and range parameters.. and a midi trigger option ...then it will be usable for instant ducking and live voice over tasks... just thinking
PS2: did a referral video for MCompare because I really dig it:
will go live this week

Cool, thank you!
Now, what do you mean about the "cut audio throughput"?? Aren't you talking about MRecorder?

I think he means to mute the channel.
So if you have your microphone going into your daw to record the voice, the channel where the microphone input is connected to should be muted as soon as playback starts.
That's how I understood it so far...for talkback that sounds interesting.
@_Freeman_ could you clarify your background that lead you to your question with the "mute" plugin?

Yeah, you're describing ducking.
For your tutorial vid narration example, it depends on how the narration is done.
If you record your narration in post, ducking the 2bus when narration comes in is easily doable with a dynamics processor... Or even MDynamicEQ. Or just ride the fader for the old school workflow.
If narration were to be done live while the screen cap video is being filmed, then some parallel bussing is needed to achieve this:

If narration were to be done live while the screen cap video is being filmed, then some parallel bussing is needed to achieve this:
- Vocals to one bus or subgroup (Bus A)
- All other tracks to another bus or subgroup (Bus B)
- Both buses feed the master.
- Insert a compressor on Bus B
- Feed the sidechain of the compressor with a post fader send of Bus A
- Voila

so basically what you are saying is that you too would profit from a small utility plugin like this

Wait a sec - you simply want a simple utility that would stop everything if the playback is stopped? I see one important problem - pretty common you have playback enabled and speak into it! In that case nothing could solve it, except for the gate, or of course, headphones
.
