A rise of "Page 22" (post by Jan) rubbish in the Cafe?

Now, what is the pattern? A few people get almost all of the attention. I'm not saying the music doesn't justify this, what I'm saying is it's a pattern. Many 0's, one post....maybe 4 posts max.
This is why I never post anything there anymore. I don't think the OP is onto anything here, it's just the way things are. Even if you are good, you are not necessarily going to get any attention.
Did you notice that talking about "who" to use to GET attention is a gazillion posts?
Some are just good, and regardless of the fact that their ego keeps them from being involved in others work, they deserve attention.
But I don't think genre has anything to do with anything.

I just post my stuff for fun, none of it's commercial-esque. I like all kinds of experiments that get posted, and I think it's a great way to meet like minded people. Honestly i think most of my stuff is crap, because I don't really put that much time in it and i know there are WAY better trained musicians here that put out actual full blown songs. This doesn't stop me from sharing because i like to share and i don't really necessarily ask for feedback, but if people leave some then thats appreciated and it helps me learn.

so what is considered not rubbish on KVR? Does it have to be stuff no one else likes or what?

All that filming really isn't condusive to letting go and submitting your body to the groove. It brings too much attention to the physical. It's certainly not an atmosphere I'd want to be part of. I rarely go out to events, but when I do, I want to rave. I want to let rip and try and transcend time and space. That may sound pretentious, but after an hour of wild dancing, you do feel like this is happening. And it's amazing. (No drugs needed). But I'm sure you know about that

I didn't really intend for things to get so personal. My actual point was more along the lines of "live and let live".
If some sort of aesthetic altruism floats your boat, then that works for you. I am ok with that. It doesn't work for me. Are you ok with that?

jancivil wrote:Well, if you want to argue, I say that your remark as to the [strawman] of the musician that is self-serving because she is only making music for herself, that no one else cares about, was self-serving in that you were slanting things to favor doing it for other people, at least making other people happy.
Which frankly signals to me a defensive posture.
I don't actually require you to trot out a dictionary. It doesn't make it mean something other than what ghettosynth and I are saying.
"at least it is not self serving" - I know what people mean by 'self-serving' and I think you are either reaching or don't get it. If you disagree, keep googling, I mean in the meantime lacking experience with the word in currency. You're hoping to take the dictionary with no context to prove a point. That's self-serving. If I make music for myself primarily, you can say I'm selfish, but 'self-serving' has a tinge to it that doesn't apply; so your insistent usage is either ignorant or bellicose.
It's a strawman, because who are you talking to that's making this music that no one cares about?
There will be two areas this will fit:
1) someone is so ahead of their time that no one can follow it. This is exceedingly rare. I can give an example, Edgard Varese in the 1930's made statements about being an inventor of sounds rather than a musician - definitely coming out as anti-career - and pretty much self-exiled somewhere in here for a couple of decades. THAT SAID, Debussy thought he was pretty great! And so did others that had enough going on to appreciate the innovation.
2) someone makes music that no one likes because it's not well-made.
So since there is no actual case you're even talking about, it's pure strawman argumentation. And it's insulting.

Actually, any argument can be called this. "If I disagree with you, you are strawman" (and the irony continues)
I see many valid arguments and clearly a difference of opinion.

Actually my original conjecture was that motive in making music is not RIGHT or WRONG (except within personal opinion). I think that is universal. Who is anyone to decide RIGHT or WRONG?
My second conjecture supports the first...if I (or anyone) choose to make music to appeal to others, it is still not right or wrong, just my choice. Might be right or wrong for me, but that is where it ends.
I have taken nothing personally, nor have I attacked anyone (at least not intentionally). My comments of self-serving were not directed at anyone but it was directed to thought process.
Some call it musical snobbery. I was in a jazz band once. All the other guys were talking about their influences- Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, etc. When I blurted out Brian Wilson, they couldn't hold back their chuckles. I should have known then.
When it comes to music my ideology is- live and make music. But that is ideology. Oh well.
