So you think Zebra isn't worth $200. Fair enough, you're entitled to your opinion. You have other options in that price range. Synthmaster is just the tip of the less-expensive but not freeware synths out there. This is where I gotta stop ya. No offense but your sales s#ck because of your ridiculous price. Let's call it what it is. This is a perfect example of your price actually driving people to pirate your program. I was about to purchase your software and was willing to fork over $50 until I saw the over inflated price of $199.
You've spent thousands of dollars on your hobby/profession but yet you take objection with the price of a single software synthesizer. Wait, you "paid" for K9. Why do you need Zebra2 with all of those tools at your disposal??You can purchase Komplete Ultimate 9 like I did and get 100 times the amount of content for $799-$999. On side note I just purchased a 2010 Macbook Pro for $350. ... And later as an adult, with all the money I saved I could afford to buy guitars, basses, pianos, full stack amps, audio interfaces, RAM upgrades, Studio Monitors, Midi keyboards, Microphones, cords, cases, rack hardware, and all the other expenses that it takes to be a musician and producer.
I smell something fishy...
Ah, there it is. The kernel of your rant. You're angry because you've been bitten by the anti-piracy measures in Zebra2. You used Zebra2 for free and started to like it and then one day *POOF* it was taken back from you. You went to the u-he site to see how much it'd cost to get it back and you didn't like the price. Gosh. I have so much sympathy for you. I wonder how much of that hardware you would have purchased if you could have somehow downloaded it instead. I'm guessing a lot less....until one of the great hackers of the world gets around to unlocking Zebra for good. That much is inevitable. It's only code...Yeah I kind of want [Zebra2], But I was doing just fine without [Zebra2] for quite a while now.
The world isn't fair and easy? Aww. So you're the victim here because there are things you want that your parents couldn't/wouldn't afford them? Your sense of entitlement is staggering. It made me sick growing up, that somebody having parents with great financial status got to explore the world with awesome toys that I couldn't get my hands on at an early stage in life.
I'm surprised you didn't just steal it from him. You clearly believe you deserved it more than your "friend" after all. More of your entitlement delusions playing out here.I remember picking up my friends instruments and for 5 minutes playing my heart out each time, blowing their abilities out of the water and yet after that 5 minutes was over I had to put it down and was left with envy that I didn't have that opportunity to take it home and play everyday when in all actuality I probably deserved it more.
Interesting how you claim people that saved up and purchased software are somehow the elitists here. My parents could only afford part of my college tuition at a small state school. I worked part time to pay the rest. I worked hard to earn my degree and a place in my chosen career and I'm proud of it. You made the choices to prioritize learning music and now you're unhappy that there's not a lot of money to be made in the field. You made those choices. You all act like you have money falling out of your b#tt and that starving artist should have to pay everyone else's salary and get nothing for years in return. Parents must've paid for your education too seeing as all of you have a bunch of legitimate purchases to brag about. Way to go you've earned the self righteous schm#ck award. If I had waited until I landed a job and was making a decent income to get started as a producer with the proper gear, I wouldn't have progressed as far as I did...
I saved up to buy Zebra2 in 2006 at the introductory price of $169. I had to sacrifice doing other things with that money but I felt Zebra2 was worth it. Eight years later I don't regret that purchase at all.
Well, you've already established that you're a criminal and openly support stealing the hard work of others. Just because Zebra2 isn't a physical device doesn't mean that Urs hasn't poured thousands of hours of time, work, and money into making it. You don't deserve a free/cheap copy of it just because you think so. It's really disturbing that you say you'd be violent by the way.To be real, I probably would've become a violent criminal with the amount of emotions I had bottled up inside. Music saved me. Scratch that, Free access to Music saved me.
Deserve?!? You don't deserve anything. Work for it, earn it. Stop painting yourself as some sort of pariah and victim and go earn the money to buy the things you want.In conclusion Every musician deserves to be heard and to have access to the tools to do so.

You know what people is doing around here (Mexico) to get out of poverty? Dealing with drugs, killing and kidnapping people...
In poor areas when you ask a child what do they want to be when they grow up they answer: "drug lord", that's the kind of greed and easy life this society has come to.
I suppose they are entitled to do that cause they are poor...

When I lived in Korea in 2000/2001 the big electronic bazaars in Seoul would have plenty of folks selling burned Playstation games for about two bucks a disc (FF7 would cost three times as much as a one-disc game). A new PSX could be chipped for about fifteen bucks. Legit games were literally unobtainable outside of US military bases.Urs wrote:Yeah.
When I bought my sampler in, hmmm, 1990, the store gave me a "sound pass". I could go to the store and copy any floppy I wanted, only my budget for empty floppies was the limit. I was convinced this was a special service paid for by the store, not an illegal marketing ploy to lure more customers. It's however ridiculous from today's perspective. Awareness has definitely changed, and muchly so because of the internet.

Kinda wonder if things have changed over there on this sort of thing but given the Japan-Korea nationalist acrimony there I'm guessing probably not.

Wow, it's difficult to understand how people can evaluate a synth as incredible as Zebra as ever being expensive in the first place. In the hardware days of the 80s and 90s, you could buy a Korg,Yamaha or Roland synth for $2000 and have them release a newer, better model 6 months later. It was rare it was much better or different from the previous model, plus pulled the value rug right from underneath you. Sometimes, things even went backwards as when Korg released their M1, which had lots of good features, but didn't even have a resonant filter! Then they released the rack version, followed by the M3 which had a useless little LCD readout. The great thing about software updates are that almost inevitably, said product gets better, i'e. Zebra 3. ( calms panting down-lol ) I've never even looked into stealing anything via the net as most of it has always struck me as being damn reasonable for what you are getting, especially when compared historically. I'm more than thankful my hardware days are over, except, of course, for an occasional new guitar or foot pedal.

This is actually an interesting discussion...and i dont think its as black or white as some would like to make it. I mean, explaining something is different from justifying it, right?
Lets take myself as an example. I started out with a cracked FL like so many others. Time went by, and here i am today, having had no cracked software on any of my machines for more than a decade.
Today, I have several boxes of CDs and LPs in storage far from where i live. They are filled with stuff that i have paid for. Now, i have actually downloaded a lot of these same albums illegally. So i am a pirate. I never download stuff i havent already paid for though...and i feel a lot worse about buying used albums, totally legit sale of second hand stuff that wont make the artist a penny, than i do about downloading stuff i have already paid for. Does that make a difference to wether i am a pirate or not?
Like i said, i have not have cracked software on any machine for at least a decade. But i did wait about 4 months too long to buy that Reaper license. I knew i was going to buy it, it would just take me a couple of months to get the cash together. I did buy it 5 months after installing it, but not doing so after the 30 days makes me kind of a pirate. Yet, i feel a lot worse about buying a, totally legit, second hand license for a U-HE product, which gives me a U-HE product and Urs nothing, than i do about those 4 months that didnt make Cockos miss a dime. I know it makes no difference to some people, but to me there is a big difference between using a demo for a little too long while actively scraping cash together, and using a cracked copy. But both technically makes me a pirate.
The point i am trying to make here is that i dont care if its legal or not to be perfectly honest. When i dont download music i havent already bought, or use cracked software its because i believe that artists/developers should be getting paid, not because its illegal. I have no quarrels downloading something i have on vinyl because i dont want the hassle of ripping it. That makes me a pirate, and i have no problem with that. And I have tons of albums on both vinyl and CD btw.
On the other hand i try not to buy too much second hand stuff, because the artists/developers dont get paid when i do that. I actually feel worse about that even though its totally legit. The idea that a pirate is a pirate, that they are all the same, is totally far fetched in my opinion.
I dont really care if i get in trouble for saying all this...to me its about what feels right, not whats legal. Taking money out of peoples pockets feels bad. Paying people for whatever they provide that i use, feels good.

U-He allows re-sale of his software and will transfer the registration. Some developers do. Some don't. If they do, it is "totally legit" and you shouldn't "feel worse." You may be overly "scrupulous." (I admit I prefer the new myself. Love that new software smell.)j79 wrote: Yet, i feel a lot worse about buying a, totally legit, second hand license for a U-HE product, which gives me a U-HE product and Urs nothing, than i do about those 4 months that didnt make Cockos miss a dime....

Thats very funny. I have never ever downloaded or used cracked software.
Why?
1. Its theft, pure and simple.
2. And maybe this is the the main reason, I write music for a living. I need all the tools I have, to work. If something doesn't work I don't. Does this mean that I cant compose without Zebra, of course not, but I will tell you why I probably own 90% of u-he software. It sounds great and it f..king works and if it doesn't, its fixed very quickly. I can't for the life of me understand how "big name" producers use cracked software I really don't, mainly for reason 2. In my game reliability and support are vital.
Anyway when's Hive out ?
