No problem runaudio ;-)

I don't wish to distract Jo too much over such a minor point, but when I get time I will post two pics to fully explain as there is still confusion over it.

Regarding the font, for my text editor I found corbel to be an easy on the eye solution. Obviously this won't suit all but that's why an option to choose your preference is probably the best idea.

Post

Agreed. I go for DejaVu Sans or DejaVu Sans Mono for virtually everything. But it's not going to be everyone's idea of nice. The big problem with a choice of fonts is that it makes the whole UI need to be resizeable. Fonts can be taller or wider than the "default", so the screen elements need to adjust and still retain their relative layout. Hopefully that's not too much of an issue for Jo's UI toolkit.

Post

I'm always confident in Jo to find a nice solution for everyone. It can't be always the ideal solution of course but we know that Jo chooses always a good compromise.

@pljones ~

I forgot about fonts needing different sizes for gui parts! Hopefully isn't too much of an issue?

Ok, as I said above, here are the pics and detailed description for you Jo. It's only a minor thing and just my personal opinion, so I'm not expecting anything to change! But here goes anyway...

This first image is of the Transport. Noticed that the Play, Loop and Metronome buttons are 'pressed.' Notice also that when these buttons are pressed the icon on the button is coloured green and the background is darkened green. The icon is coloured according to the Looks preference whilst the background, I assume, is set to the same colour but with a darker tone to it. It produces a nice effect that makes it look quite good.

Now onto the other buttons. I posted a shot of the main buttons on the top left of the window, but this is far from the limits of where these buttons are applied. They appear throughout MuX windows, though it doesn't look as bad as these buttons on the 'main toolbar.' Possibly because the MuX buttons are smaller?

My colour scheme may not suit, but I have tried several and this is my preference. Adding colour is a great idea, but... it needs to be subtle as the transport buttons are rather than in your face as the main toolbar buttons appear.

These buttons look plain and unfinished in that they appear thrown together for function. Perhaps you wanted to keep the 'pressed' image different from the Transport so as to differentiate them easily? Personally I think something like the transport buttons should be added to the main toolbar as I think it looks unprofessional. Just my opinion though, and it's only a minor thing.

I guess they're indicating something different. The transport "pause" and "loop" buttons and the "metronome" button say what something is doing, whereas the view buttons say what is showing. They're lit up to say "on display" rather than pushed in to say "active". To me, it makes sense to differentiate. They could maybe do with a little more fade... it's not as obvious as on the position/tempo displays... Then the "off" versions would need changing to look more like "unlit" lights...

Post

Yeah I guessed why they were like that but just think they could be a little more subtle and maybe less 'thrown-together-quick-as-possible' than they do.

Post

What about making the bevel a bit more prominent, although that kind of takes it further away from the cleaner/simpler style.

Beauty is only skin deep,
Ugliness, however, goes right the way through

Post

Not really -- the edge wouldn't go dark as it got nearer the now-lit bulb behind the plastic... it would simply diffract it in a different way to the flatter part of the surface. That's why I think the "off" lights don't look right :).

Post

I don't mind the lit button but the unlit ones don't look quite right. Perhaps half the size bezel? I didn't even think of trying to edit the skin myself might look into that see if I can come up with something ;-)

Post

Not sure its possible to edit them as yet ( other than just colours ) it was just a screen grab and quick botch up in paint to show what it could look like.

I really don't see what's wrong with them. At the contrary they look very good to me. And i compared them to many other buttons in other apps.

The only thing i'm open to atm is that maybe i'll extent color customization so that you can do buttons with on-state with dark color and some light text color. But not top prio atm.

Edit: To avoid confusion: I appreciate your feedback sl23, i also asked for it. And i evaluated it. But i disagree on topic, respectfully. Thanks for your feedback!

No the beveling is not editable.

I really like the MUX looks, they seem to be improving regularly and more gui elements are becoming customizable.
