May I ask, is there a chance that some of the Hive algos (unison/detune, filters, envelopes) make it into Zebra 3?
You may think you can fly ... but you better not try

It can't be set to zero currently? (can't check now) Of course it would be useful - to make these basses. Important feature to add that doesn't require adding/changing a lot of code.hakey wrote:The ability to set rate to zero would increase its usefulness considerably.4damind wrote:Is there a chance that you improve the Phaser FX and add a tempo sync option?

Great to hear that. Really looking forward to it.Urs wrote:We've planned to work on this next year. Search and more tagging options (beyond "junk" and "favourite") are on our todo list. Once done it'll be available for all our plug-ins.
For me tags are much better than folders (categories). Sometimes I want to find for example tempo-synced evolving sound and I don't really care if it's a pad, bass or lead. And I want to be able to search my whole preset collection - not divide it into factory sounds and 3rd party ones. But I understand this will be doable with the new tagging options.Urs wrote:Hive's factory bank will of course be sorted into categories, as we always do.
I have mixed feelings about this. Sometimes people overuse the user definable tags - they make it too specific or too made-uphakey wrote: User definable [tags], please!

No, it can't. I've been requesting this feature since the phaser that was introduced for ACE.trance_lucent wrote:It can't be set to zero currently? So long as you're not forced to use them that shouldn't be a problem.szalonykp wrote:I have mixed feelings about this. Sometimes people overuse the user definable tagshakey wrote: User definable [tags], please!
I'd rather have no tags than a clunky one size fits all system imposed from above.

Maybe you're right - like the bass subtags in Massive - fingered, slapped and acoustichakey wrote:I'd rather have no tags than a clunky one size fits all system imposed from above.

No worries. Anything that finds 5% of presets in 95% of searches isn't going to happen, or at least it won't be imposed by us.

And there i was still hoping for ACE XL, even after your comments about its sales figures.Urs wrote:Noooo! The last thing we want to do is release another subtractive synth - I think with the upcoming improvements to Zebra and one day a fully modular synth, there's not much space in our portfolio - we might need to look into other thingsrecursive one wrote:Maybe if it doesn't fit the Hive concept (only basic features, lowest possible CPU) , Urs could consider releasing an expanded, higher priced version, Hive Plus or Hive XT, whatever.![]()
However, I think that formant filters would be very nice for Hive. We just hadn't had time to fully explore those options. We've also experimented with PADsynth and Modal Synthesis. We can do amazing things at very low CPU, but it requires a lot of tweaking and manpower. That manpower wasn't availble because we also just released Bazille and Presswerk.
As for Hive, i bought it after just a couple of hours fooling around with it.
I liked its sound almost instantly and i can get a lot of the sounds i want really fast.
To me it somehow sounds similar to Bazille for the sounds i look for .
From my memory i think i was more impressed with the lp filters in Bazille and Dune2 when i first heard them. Or i am just too spoiled these days.
Unison is really good, cpu use awesome here. The UI isn't quite my thing aesthetically but great when it comes to workflow.
What feels kinda off to me is the lack of knobs for phase and pulsewidth.
The way it is now is workable but feels more like it would be done in Zebra or Bazille. Its not as obvious and immediate as the rest in Hive.
More waveforms and filters would be nice. But its a very fine synth as it is.
Andy is a support ninja.

You know, chord editing and scale locking would be crazy cool with microtonal scales.Urs wrote:We can discuss it. There's no reason not to, but we simply thought we'd start out with the most minimal feature set. We're going to soup up the keyboard control with more features later (chord editing, scale locking). So maybe we can somehow add the .tun file support in there too.~Pd~ wrote:Will this eventually get support for .tun files? Or am I the only one who wants to make quarter-tone trance and 17-TET EDM?

Wow !
This synth is so intuitive! And filters are great!
Here a small track composed in an hour with just 2 identical Hive set (5 minutes to obtain a simple sawtooth with unison). One for synth, one for bassline (with amp & compressor).
I'm amazed by the results!

By the way, as a by-product of another discussion on this forum, it might be interesting to offer some kind of filtering option on the OSC Detune and SUB Semitone knobs when Noise sources are selected - ie: LP and/or HP at minimum.
