It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

Oh Lord!!! you, good sir, have made me fall in love all over again with Zebra!!!
This is amazing, this is how Zebra should be forever and ever and for the rest of time, the Modulation of the XY Axis is now such a joy, the Arpeggiator, the XMF filters...
Expect my donation in January, I am a man of few words and fewer posts, but this is something to rave about, Congratulations.
But then a strange fear gripped me
and I just couldn't ask....

Thanks for your kind words :) Glad to hear you're enjoying it. Have fun!

Good idea, I'll look into it. Actually, I was thinking about moving XY pads to the left pane (as on the screenshot in my previous post) for both Zebra Mini and Zebrify Mini, to keep code consistent and easier to maintain.

Great idea - as a Redux Mini user I'm very happy with your excellent port for smaller screens.

They are nice :) Are you going to share the scripts sometime?

Adapting from a post I made for possible Z3 features:

This balance between simple Hive-like immediacy and abundance of features will hopefully extend to the filters and OSC FX. There's such a staggering amount of effects and filters, and while it truly is fun to explore them and have 'happy accidents', It can feel like I'm working blind sometimes because it's difficult to remember the character and effect of each individual filter and effect. If there was some sort of tiny description or label perhaps when you hover your mouse over an effect or filter that explains what the 'character' of the filter/effect is, that would actually make things *alot* easier because I wouldn't have to refer to the manual for the millionth time to remember what this effect is actually doing.

I made a couple of suggestions, but it was mainly for Z3 because I know there is only so much that I can expect. That said, something like this doesn't seem like something impossible for Z2.

As I wrote, nothing stunts the creative process like having to pull up the manual in the middle of a patch. Hovering your mouse over a parameter, especially a filter or OSC fx, and reading a small description of what it does would actually life a whole lot easier.

The descriptions themselves don't have to be anything complex: a simple copy and paste from the manual is more than enough. "LP Allaround: CPU-friendly 24dB lowpass, with a strong resonance and smooth coloration via Drive.". "Odd or Even: emphasizes odd or even harmonics".

Do you think something like this could be done in Redux? :)

Post

Technically, it could be done by creating descriptive icons for each effect. But there are some problems, though:

1. There's not enough free space left in OSC module for new elements.
2. The sound of most spectral effects changes dramatically depending on the waveform of the OSC.
3. I can't think of any image that would represent these spectral effects. Introducing a bunch of new pixelated animal icons won't help remember the sound.

So, while technically possible, I see no practical way of implementing this idea. Sorry.

Post

Oh, I wasn't thinking about any new icons or images or anything. Just like...if you hover your mouse over an effect or filter for a few seconds, a little text-box appears with a description of what said-effect/filter does.

Post

Ah, I see. AFAIK, Zebra doesn't have such "popup on mouse over" feature (yet?). Can't do anything about it :(

Post

Awww, well, thanks for thinking about it. Guess I'll just keep the manual close by or pull out the flash-cards again :P. Writing down different effects, filters, and parameters on one side and trying to memorize them like that seems to help, but perhaps I am misguided on that one.
