Say something extraordinary was to happen, like a random cow fell out of the sky and landed on my laptop and completely destroyed it. Well I know it would be no problem to email U-he, tell them what happened and install a new copy on my new computer.
If that happened with.. my Challenge/response style stuff I don't know what might happen.
I would probably end up having to buy everything twice again.
Of course having a cow fall out of the sky probably won't happen, but stranger things have happened..

Good thing I often take the bus then..

If that ever DOES happen, you better darn well get a good SAMPLE recording of it.V0RT3X wrote:Of course having a cow fall out of the sky probably won't happen, but stranger things have happened..

I am working on a Kontakt libary - The Deluxe Falling Cows Collection.

You have no idea how much money there is in that idea.Frantz wrote:Moooooooooooooooooooooooooo - THUMP!

For starters: Chick-fil-A
All fans of Douglas Adams
Every moooooving company on the planet
Most of Texas
The dairy industry
Wall Street (who desperately need a mediator between the bears & bulls)
Pixar (tipping cows only works with the right foley FX)
SNL (you KNOW Tina Fey will want a shot at creating some falling cow gags)

One would think so but my Screaming Sloths sample library was on all the torrent sites in a day. Nevertheless, I'm gonna milk Falling Cows for all it's worth.Infinite5ths wrote: You have no idea how much money there is in that idea.

Question1:
Are there any plans to use Hive's supersaw technology in the future versions of the currently existing U-he synths?
Question2:
I already have two synths that are capable of creating decent "supersaw" sounds. Why should I need Hive?

Fill up Hive's modmatrix slots with Modwheel>Osc1:detune and set Unison to 16 and you'll get that effect.V0RT3X wrote:You know if you throw in a swarm based oscillator for creating "swarmatron" style sounds I might just buy it. Closest thing I know is this..

Not in Ableton 9 atm. I can do it with every other synth, but not Hive. Anybody else? EDIT: I see: you've got to click the "Preset" button.Urs wrote:You can already use arrow up/down keys to step through presets. You have to however click the preset navigator to give it the keyboard focus.
I love glowing stuff. Glowing stuff is like moths to a flame, or bees to... Hopefully, the ability to add glows will part of the skinability? Hive feels a bit static atm. Feels like glowing would fit the sci-fi angle too.Well, generally speaking, everything contributes to the sound you hear. The main indicator being whether or not a volume knob is set to 0.00, or if it's modulated by the Matrix.
Getting synthesis lessons from Urs Heckmann is like getting acting lessons from Marlon Brando, dancing lessons from Robert Nureyev, or singing lessons from Freddie Mercury. I feel so undeserving. We have ordered [an instructional video], but of course we can't do it until the UI and feature set are still work in progress. Work on this won't start before February. That said...
… a key aspect of subtractive synthesizers is that they're commonly built out of similar bulding blocks with a nearly identical set of parameters. Those parts usually vary only in number, but never in the way they're typically used. There's always a given number of oscillators, usually one or two filters, a simple mixer and/or amplifier, one or two envelopes and an LFO or two. These modules interact to control the basic pitch, timbre and volume of a sound alongside it's development over time. The principle is universal, such that if you know how one subtractive synthesizer works, you almost know them all. The individual modules commonly differ only in a few minor details, but never in fundamental ways. Therefore, any tutorial video that explains "subtractive synthesis" will also explain the main ingredients used in Hive, such as this:
Everything explained in there is also true for Hive, as Hive is pretty much "two synths in one", the first one being on the left of the hexagon while the second resides on the right hand side. The parameters explained in the video are also the ones with big knobs or faders in Hive, because they're the most important ones. The main difference is, Hive does not even have a dedicated VCA. Like the guy says "there's not much to say", so we simply put volume knobs into oscillators and filters without explicitely labeling them as VCA. However, the Amp envelopes are by design always in control of the volume development over time.
The thing in Hive that remains a tad abstract is the Modulation Matrix. While its use is optional, we will work on visual feedback regarding what modulates which parameter, but that's also one of the points that might either delay the final release or be added later.
BTW, I made a Hive tune, but can't find an appropriate lead sound yet.

Answer1: I'm sure we can use our experience with Hive to speed up Zebras oscillators. We can also apply our newly gained knowledge about detuning laws. But we won't copy/paste the exact code.dune_rave wrote:Question1:

Answer2: You may not need Hive. But you might still want it

In which context?xamido wrote:I want to modulate LFO1 amount with Mod Env 2, how do i do that?
If it's the LFO1 amount towards a filter, simply
drag a modmatrix target onto the LFO amount knob of that filter,
set that knob to zero,
use Mod 2 as source for the Matrix and
adjust Matrix depth to taste.
If LFO1 is used as source in a ModMatrix, simply use Mod2 as the "via" slot next to where LFO1 is selected.

Oh, so that's what via is all about. Haha.Urs wrote:In which context?xamido wrote:I want to modulate LFO1 amount with Mod Env 2, how do i do that?

Thanks for the explanation.
