Yeah, you should either remove pitch wheel or make it bipolar. Everyone expects the pitchwheel to be bipolar. Also, the CC lane defaults to a value of 50. 50 only makes sense for a bipolar control. It should be 0Urs wrote:Yeah, I've asked that myself. I think I'll remove PitchWheel, it's kind of odd to have there anyway.hakey wrote:Why not allow bipolar CC modulation when pitchwheel is the selected source?
I don't like the idea of a bipolar modulator there because Velocity is a unipolar one. Having one like this and one like that may seem strange, even if tune is bipolar (needs to be because of how the step record works)

Just IMHO, I'd rather see PW out of the CC list - it's an exception to MIDI CC rules for being bipolar, 14-bit, and having a direct target variable inside a generic/generalized synth architecture. Using it as a CC rather than pitchbend is valid but necessarily a technical choice rather than the simple choice.
I do like the idea of abstract XY modulators, even just a single, solitary X, which is then assigned to point internally to some CC/CV-like mod source. I think this allows for PW to be used as CC for external sequencing - it's technical rather than simple, but I'd argue it's already technical for using PW as a CC.
(The one not-so-simple consequence is there's a slight collision between e.g.:
Seq -> 'X' -> MMatrix
Seq -> MW -> 'X' -> MMatrix
... but that's easily fixed by not allowing the sequencer to directly target 'X'.)

Having fun working with Diva patches, but my version of Howard Scarr's Switched Back On isn't doing too hot. Any ideas?

Oh I was wondering what that did. Thank you!Howard wrote:Pretty good, but missing the slight pitch modulation. See 'LAG' in the original Diva preset. Use Mod2 instead of lagged gate.
Here's a few more patches mostly ported from Diva and a few other VSTs. I have a couple others that were converted from some commercial soundbanks by VintageSynthPads and Le Lotus Bleu but even though I've done extra work on those I don't know what the legality is for redistributing those, so for now I'm omitting them until I can contact the authors.
There will be more... this is fun.
(edit: patch bank superseded -- see downthread)

That's your run of the mill supersaw lead, really. Some noise, a touch of distortion, some reverb, and portamento... Not that big a deal really.
