Awaiting to hear back from him. (but may not be able to say anything depending on what's happened)

Users need to have a keep safe org. that can insure survival of their tools when the developers cave.. So support and development can continue...Afterall it seems like there is several lifetimes worth of work that goes into building up the resources that a popular instrument like Alchemy has amassed around it's sound making platform..
My PC is unaware of CA's demise.
As such my Alchemy still works.

I don't impose my take on perfection, upon people I purchase from.
We all will shut down. Some in more severe situations than others.
Software keeps working. We won't.

Maybe their Website was hacked.

No, you *actually* are selling the product as it exists then, with no promise of future compatibility or support. Users often infer such a promise, but legally there is not one, as outlined in the license terms with any software product.

Of course, a good company does support it's products and maintain them moving forward as it's good business to do so. But there is no legal obligation to users to update a product for any length of time. And sometimes, sh*t happens.

And Ugo's account here?

erm, no.

Heartwarming as usual to see that the reaction is full of entitlement ('what about my stuff', 'stopping selling their stuff should be illegal', 'open source it', 'so was alchemy2 a lie?') rather than concern ('are folk okay?').

Here's hoping Ben etc are okay.

If true then I am saddened. Camel was always a company synonymous with quality and excellent customer service.
Whatever the reason, I'm sure it was a decision not taken lightly. As a small business owner myself I can understand the pressures.

A couple of days ago I tried to trade my Alchemy license for another plugin. I don't mind keeping it now (feeling a tad guilty in fact).

Ben and Co - I wish you every success for the future, and thank you for your amazing work.

This sucks.

I hope that Ben is alright.

I mean... why would CA bother to edit half of the site out (there's no product info anymore!) and not mention in an official statement that something might have happened to Ben?

OMFG!! I just noticed. I'm in shock, I cannot even enter the backend where dev's and SD's talk, WTF! I have no clue whatsoever... this is sad.

I hope that Alchemy 2 was looking just so damn good that someone paid a shedload for it. If that's true, then I trust Ben & Co to do something decent with the cash rather than just lounge around in a gold-plated bathtub sipping champagne. Also, it means there's a chance the Alchemy 2 IP may see the light of day eventually, though I can't believe anyone with such deep pockets would make as good a job of releasing it as the Camels would have done.

The alternative is some sort of personal disaster, and I hope that's not the case. Either way, I hope all the Camel employees are being looked after.

Under the circumstances I won't be releasing the Alchemy library I was working on! Was a month or two off finishing anyway, and I may be able to reuse the samples for something else, so not the end of the world. Alchemy was one of the two or three sound design formats I was going to confine myself to in the future, so that will change. It's a shame, because I still think that Alchemy can't be beaten for flexibility and versatility. As long as technology doesn't stop me running it, I'll still be using Alchemy 1 for many years to come... :tu:

One thing I can say is... piracy is not the cause of this decision. CA was well off...
