Set the envelope to modulate the pitch of a sine wave, then listen to the results while fiddling with the parameters. If you want visual feedback, start up a rolling spectrograph (there are free ones around). You will have a graph of the envelopes on the screen then.dumbledog wrote:I'd love some sort of graphical feedback of precisely what an evenlope's shape is after its modifications -- it can be pretty tough to wrap one's head around what's going on to an envelope, especially when you've got four of them all capable of modulating each other.Urs wrote:One day we'll document exactly how envelopes can be shaped with what's there already. We're just also toying with the idea to make it easier beforehand (env rate as mod target, maybe even a knob)7. Curve settings for the phases of the ADSR: From expo, over lin to logarithmic. Or reflected in one multi value knob.

Hi Urs,
Having worked Hive pretty hard for the OSC I respectfully would like to request:
- more flexible envelopes. Maybe even MSEG type. Or at least a delay parameter and easy ways to adjust the curves (I know this is already covered in other posts).
- a few more modulation sources. The Hive architecture has good options on how to utilize the 2 envelopes and LFO's, (also thanks for the separate vibrato LFO!), I think having an extra envelope and LFO, or even an advanced LFO that can also work as an envelope (like in Serum), or MSEG (like Zebra) would make programming sounds faster and more interesting.
- an implementation of FM. Maybe just between an oscillator and it's sub -- add a switch so that the sub becomes a FM source to the main oscillator?
- 6 and 18 pole LP filters or a filter slope adjustment (even in the modulation matrix being able to adjust the slope would be cool)
Thank you for another hi quality, great sounding synth.

Ooh good idea, thanks. I've just been bouncing test notes.Sendy wrote: Set the envelope to modulate the pitch of a sine wave, then listen to the results while fiddling with the parameters. +/- 24 semitones on suboscillators is not enough to recreate some of the sweetest chords from sylenth1
+/- 36 or even 43 would be awesome mr Urs ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I assume the preset folders not being honored will be fixed in sub-sequent Hive versions. Just now presets show as a flat list of presets.
Otherwise, Hive is crawling into all kinds of non-expected uses in my productions outside the normal super-saw synth productions, like subtle bass sounds.

Works fine for me on Windows x64. Need to create the folders, since the install only has a handful of presets. But I created a Third Party folder and put some of the free soundsets people are posting in subdirectories there, and those directories work fine when I hit the Preset button. What are you seeing?ksandvik wrote:I assume the preset folders not being honored will be fixed in sub-sequent Hive versions. Just now presets show as a flat list of presets.

Just a flat list of all the files. Now I will try to back out the symlink I used in OS X to map the user preset folders to other disk location, works with Zebra/Bazille/Diva so it might be the symlink that causes issues.winds350 wrote:Works fine for me on Windows x64. As it turns out now, we won't make it before my vacation, hence we're thinking early-mid April. It'll be available for 99$ until well after release.

Just to note that this is not a problem with the Linux version. Presets folders appear as expected.ksandvik wrote:I assume the preset folders not being honored will be fixed in sub-sequent Hive versions. Just now presets show as a flat list of presets.

I think that's a smart move. You have a rep for not releasing Buggy or unfinished stuff, so take the time needed to feel right when you officially roll out. I did my part and pre-ordered just now. I'll be plenty happy with what's already in the beta for now.Urs wrote:First point here:fisherKing wrote:am late to the hive party (i just bought it tho), and, not wanting to read 80 pages of posts...is there an estimated release date/month/something yet? am looking forward to that..!

Here's a bug report for Hive.
I included a short audio mp3 of the issue, where the sound is phasing, with weird detune, but it corrects it's tonal quality by the end of file.
I included a detailed description of the issue and other needed info within the document file.
I also included the brass patch that the problem happens with.
Just clicking on the different engines (normal, clean, dirty) brings the sound back to normal. Switch to a different patch, and then back again to the brass patch, and the weird phasing, and tuning issue happen again.
Here's the report/audio/patch zip
https://app.box.com/s/qgdiswjirs37zli2a5nr
Happens in three different daws.
edit: If I switch to either clean or normal mode, switch to any wave that isn't pulsewidth. The problem doesn't happen after saving and switching between these sounds. So it only happens in Dirty mode.
edit: Just talking the original patch using pulse-PW osc1. If I just change the mode to either normal or clean, then saving, and switching sounds. The problem does not happen. The issue is with Dirty mode then.

Think I found a bug in the envelopes. When you're modulating the sustain of Env1 by Env2 and their sustains sum to more than 100, the note cuts off. I'd expect the note to simply sustain at 100 until their sum drops below 100. Here's a demo patch.
