I didn't say that no software developer would release anything. But VST makers are not going to make a move until post-Win-10. And, for instance, there will not be any chance of a new Access Virus until that point either. These are long-run products (not like games that have a shelf life of 1 to 6 months). These products need to be developed around a 10 year platform. Microsoft Windows 7 support ends in 2 years. Nobody is going to latch themselves to a sinking ship. The pump & dump fire-and-forget sales model that game developers use is just not the same as the long term sales platform model VST developers depend on.

I dare to disagree with this statement a little. Microsoft isn't that big of a b**ch to change runtimes, APIs or anything like that. Another thing is, that if you need your code to be multiplatform, you need to write it in purest form of C you can afford with your skills. ...and on that level, the language didn't really changed much for decades. SSE and MMX instructions are on CPU's also for decades (correct me if I'm wrong) pretty much unchanged. All the stuff Microsoft surrounds your code with shouldn't bother you. Especially with a DAW in the way.

Shortly: I can't imagine a code, that would be totally doomed when new Windows arrive.

Nothing against Tony, but I agree. Maybe he has some kinda insight we don't have, but I can't ever remember in all these years, a developer (especially a major playa) being contingent upon a new release of an OS.

Apple users would have been passed by YEARS ago if that was the case, and companies such as spectra clearly endorse/support all the crazy changes they've made.

Post

Most older apps I have for XP still run today on Win 7 quite nicely.
It's not like Apple... who manage to break app compatibility with dot-point updates to the OS.

I doubt Windows 10 compatibility is a concern for most Windows software developers.
My main tools: Kontakt, Omnisphere, Samplemodeling + Audio Modeling. Unify = godsend. Tari's libraries also rock.

Especially since it seems that windows developers are just "catching up" to 8. That's why I went 7 when I built this machine. Nothing against 8, I know some people think it's groovy, but I know everything is compatible with 7. My computer is living proof of that.

windows 10 doesnt concern me at all when reading spectrasonics decembre tweet

@Spectrasonics: LOL! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays. Let's just say we are very excited for 2015 :-)

something new for sure, i doubt they can withhold any longer when you see whats coming out in the synth department from the big guns Roland, Korg, Behringer etc in 2015

Ok, that's great........but we've been THROUGH this. We went through this last year. I could dig it up and tomorrow I might still, but it's not like people are just being "bah humbug"......we've heard it before.

Post

The big news is Spectrasonics has merged with Camel Audio and they will release Camelsphere.

  :hyper:

They've not been at NAMM for years. Don't think they'd turn up and just say "it's all still great, isn't it?"

The question now is how many products they'll be releasing info on. We'd all take just the one obviously, but I wouldn't bet against significant updates for more, maybe even all three.

I'd love to see it. God knows I won't be "selling" any of them  Updates are welcome.

RMX is long long LONG overdue. We joke, we laugh, we cry, we hope, but wouldn't mind SOMETHING happening.

I'll lay money on the Camel conflation being nonsense.

This is just a release party for Eric's new album. Not to say that it isn't exciting. It just might not be what you are expecting.
