Like I said I'm quite new to the program and at this point it works OK for me :) and just scratched the surface of it

Yeah he definitely didnt give any exact numbers if thats what you're after (Thats what we're all after :D). But he said there would be a fair price for the upgrade. Probably something like
T2msrp-T1msrp = upgrade.

If Tracktion goes into the $200+ range, I'm gonna be very glad I bought it for only $80 bux a year ago. :hihi:

Mmmm... upgrade...

Hope the default colours are the same. ;)

:?:
Beno, the title of the thread was promising, but the content quite empty....

So to sum up, no news about the release date, no news about the price, and no news about about what's new... OK.... :P

Well, no but I do understand your point. I also hope the program doesn't stray too far from it's streamlined approach and friendly price tag.

I'll play along in the guessing game too. I vote msrp 149.00, online 129.00 upgrade from T1 40.00. Very competitive and completely justified.

If the upgrade is more than 50.00, I'll have to think twice. As it is, I'm already taxing my old hardware. If the system requirements are increased to require panther, I'm out until I get a new machine and that's not likely to be soon.

I really hope you are right James. I fear though that Mackie's attitude to pricing will be very different to what Jules'was for T1 . After all they have presumably committed funds to the 'acquisition' of Tracktion and will want to recover that and much more! Expect a significant hike in price!

I think the fact we have 'official word' indicates that the gears are indeed turning so, while I'm not expecting a release next week, Mackie are obviously getting ready for T2s release, thinking about upgrade policies etc.

Though a teaser screenshot wouldn't hurt, eh Beno? :D

I hope Mackie does realize that the price of Tracktion is an important component to its success. At a reasonable price point (I'd say thats $150 or less), there is no legitimate competition for T (sorry fruity users!). But hike it to ~$200-250, and the levels of expectations shift exponentially.

First of all, the way I've been reading things, Mackie didn't pay a large sum of money to aquire Tracktion; they're simply helping with support, distribution and marketing for a slice of the pie in what I'd call a joint venture between RMS and Mackie. That is of course a total guess, because as far as I know, very few details of the nature of the deal have been released officially, but I think it's consistent with how Jules initially worded it.

Second, I think Mackie are not stupid. Profit = (Price * Quantity) - Costs, and if they increase the price too much, they'll lose a lot of customers who thought Tracktion was a great solution at an affordable price, but who may be otherwise inclined to go for Logic or Cubase or another more estabished competitor with a stronger brand and better recognised name, if only because they percieve that "it's what the pros use". Tracktion appeals to a certain segment of the market, and since Jules can still feed his family, that segment must be reasonably profitable. Trying to hurl a product into a different segment is in almost all cases utter nonsense. I'm sure someone at Mackie went to business school. :-)

My money (literally and figuratively) is on the $149 price point, maybe even less. I think we'll also see more different options; perhaps a $50 addon for video support, and a $99 online version with no manual or telephone/email support?

All just speculation of course, but why else does this forum exist? :-)

You're all mental!

Mackie are obviously watching this thread to see what people are expecting/willing to pay before finally setting the price of T2. They wouldn't be daft enough to set it so high that the majority of current users think it's too much, and don't upgrade!

So ....

I think a reasonable full price for T2 would be about $90 US Dollars, with an upgrade price of $5

Anyone else got any ideas?

The most reasonable way would be that they lower the price from 80 to 70 $ for version 2. All people who already have version 1 would get a refund of 5$

Cool!

I would say by October we will see v2.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand this kind of thinking (popped up a few times on this thread, so I don't mean to single this one out). I see this with just about every software update for other programs, where people expect something extra because they just bought vX shortly before vX+1 came out. What's the difference?? What about the people who bought v1 months prior? If anything, they would deserve more of a break. But regardless of when you bought v1, now you have it, like everyone else who has had it for months, and will ultimately still get a deal for v2 by virtue of having already had v1 before v2 came out.

My guess is v2 will be $149 for first-time buyers, and a $49 upgrade for v1 owners ($20 savings). That would seem reasonable to me.

Shaz (who hasn't bought any version yet... hoping for some confirmation of video capability in v2, otherwise I'll probably have to go with Cubase, much as I like Tracktion).

Personally, I think the next version of tracktion will come with free "stripper poles" for the girlfriends, fiances, and wives of said Tracktioneers. You know, something to distract us from T now and then...

believe me when I say this... I want mine to have a candy cane stripe going down it. Whhhooaahh! :o :D
