To develop from scratch StepChild would be a fairly hefty piece of work[1]. I wouldn't get too excited just yet.
[1] Frankly Mod deserves a beer or two from people for his work, and if Karbon finishes the OSX version, you mac people should send him a drop of something good.

The way I see it is after twenty hours of glaring at a computer screen, your eyes are gonna be crossed and your head a little sore. So, if you're gonna look and feel like you got wasted, you might as well actually be wasted.Aleatoric wrote:valley you are all about getting wasted huh

Evening all.
I have now recovered from my week of drunkenness that was last week. I don't normally talk as much arse and in fact I'm a bit scared to look over my posts!
The child is progressing. It was only started two days ago!
My Delphing engine has been forced out of retirement and the old Sheep Lush Plush abilities are rising. The childs guts are being done at the moment and I'm researching and thinking about how to dooey the Gooey.
I think we'll be just fine.
If anyones interested... It's a fooking minefield! Converting from a non-case sensitive to a case sensitive language! And single versus double quotes! That's just the easy bits that you get used to! AND It's PC to Mac!
In Delphi you've got a nice easy function called IntToStr aye? C++ on a PC has a similar but scarier function called itoa. (they turn like a number, say 2, into string, like "2") Not so C++ on the god-forsaken mac! 3 lines of gobbldegook I had to write to do that on the mac!
Wooah! Stop spouting and get coding Forms!
Anyone read "The Manual" by the KLF? Read it last night. Written in 1988 but a lot still applies and they even predict that we'd all be doing it at home some time. Oh and it's hilarious! I have an html file if anyone wants it but its on the net somewhere in less readable form.
OY! Get coding!
I intend to use "White Room" testing as opposed to "Black Box"

In defense of the god-forsaken Mac, C++ is C++ on any platform. itoa is not a C++ standard library function. This is more of a language/compiler issue than a platform issue. For example, I'm pretty sure CodeWarrior supports itoa on Mac.Karbon L. Forms wrote:In Delphi you've got a nice easy function called IntToStr aye? Good luck on the coding -- I'm anxiously awaiting the results!

Aye. I know that. MY Mac is the god-forsaken one then. It sucks! It's an old G3 imac. I hate it. I'm coding on PC and remote controlling the mac to compile.n8gray wrote:In defense of the god-forsaken Mac, C++ is C++ on any platform. itoa is not a C++ standard library function. BTW, sorry you have to even undergo the pain of the Stepchild code. I look back on it and I am amazed that it even works. There is a lot of backward thoughts in terms of code, simply because I didn't quite know how the VST spec worked, nor was I too familiar with Delphi other than my past experiences with Pascal (pre object oriented stuff).. But hey..
what can I say...
it doesn't crash
Happy to hear it's moving along... if you've got any questions about certain functions lemmie know...

I'm just joining the dots at the moment. Not too many head-scratchers. Bit freaked when you said "I changed the vstsdk files here". You get my emails Mods?

I think maybe we should try to put our heads together to find or make a crossplatform development framework and environment so that we can avoid these issues in the future. There's been an upsurge in high quality Tracktion-oriented plugs lately, and it's a big shame for Mac uses almost all of them are PC only! Does anyone know what Jules did for the Tracktion default plugins?

Easy. Ban Delphi!
Or get a few more thousand to sign the Delphi for Mac petition (at Petitionsonline or something - google it)
I think it's easy enough to stay cross-platform using C++ and some care. Go easy on system calls, use directives etc.

Words Of Advice For Young People.
Don't attempt one more whopping great swatch of porting rather odd code (floats for midi velocity!?!?) at 2 in the morning when your a bit shattered and your the type who can't retire without a clean compile.
That was painfull on the heed.
I'm seeing what you mean Mods!
Also, your keyboard must have had a really dicky shift key? Or did you use a Capitalisation Randomisation Utility(tm)
Horlicks and bed for me...
