Hello,
I'm using REAPER x64 with Tx16Wx. I get a few milliseconds of audio then stuttering and then nothing. Seems like maybe some sort of audio mismatch.

I've tried several different audio configurations on REAPER. They seem to work with other VST's (sforzando, kontakt, sampletank, linuxsampler64) but not Tx16Wx. For a program bank, I've used imported SFZ's and also the Big Mono performance.

AD_Big Mono Kit_Multi-Out.txperf

I've also used a simpler sfz file import of a classical guitar. mf-natural-concert-guitar-ogg.sfz . This works if I play notes one at a time with very low volume, but for any real work the volume gets very loud and the VST auto mutes.

Sorry if this has been asked before. I tried Googling but didn't find anything.

thanks for any help.

further info.

When I just load a few samples manually, I find that I can play one sample at a time, but when multiple samples try to play simultaneously, the stuttering happens.

REAPER Performance Meter shows ~12% CPU use on the TX16Wx track.

System RAM free: 926MB/3914MB
RAM use 328MB on reaper

When two samples are playing simultaneously the Performance Meter is the same. During the MIDI playback, time stops seemingly while something has to catch up.

I've never heard anything like what you describe.

1.) Which version of TX?
2.) Which version of REAPER?
3.) What are your audio settings, such as buffer sizes, output mode, sample rate, bit width, audio device etc?

If you load an empty TX16Wx with vanilla settings, and map a sample across the keyboard, do you get the same results? I can only say that I can at least run the guitar sfz mentioned above without any issues. Don't have access to the drum kit right now.

My best guess would be that you are running your DAW with audio settings that somehow break the dsp loop, but that does not sound right either... :-P

Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Tx - 2.4.0e.3616.2550
Reaper - 4.75/x64

Output mode tried several different modes.

Currently ASIO (using ASIO4all), 44.1kHz tried both 16bit and 24bit . Output device is USB headphones.

You forgot to mention buffer size, which is really the only thing that could matter on the TX end. But since you can apparently run other instruments I highly doubt that is the issue. I really have no idea actually.
What happens if you run another DAW host?

ASIO buffers are 512 bytes, but I have tried other sizes too without breakthroughs.

I don't have another DAW host on this PC.

I just tried things on another PC at home and it works fine. I'm wondering if the CPU on my laptop doesn't speed up correctly and runs out of real time. I'll investigate a bit more tomorrow.

Feel free to divulge the brand and model etc of the CPU in question.

Are you running your laptop in High Performance mode (Power Options)? If not, CPU might be throttled.

Post

So, I put the problem machine in High Performance mode and closed all other processes and that helps a bit. At that point my experiment of two samples playing at the same time worked most of the time, but REAPER performance meter showed > 10% CPU being taken up by TX16Wx.

When I try a real example of a guitar SFZ playing a demo MIDI, CPU goes higher than 30% and the stuttering action happens.

When I play the same song with the same SFZ file with sforzando, the CPU use is 0.1%.

I tried several different bridging and compatibility options in REAPER, but nothing seems to help.

Problem machine is Lenovo 3460 thinkpad, running Windows 8.0
CPU is Intel i5-3427U @ 1.8GHz (2 Cores, 4 Logical Processors)
4GB physical memory.

Uhm, I'm looking at the build number you listed, and it is for a 32-bit build. But you also stated you are running 64-bit reaper? If so you are trying to run TX16Wx in a 64->32 bridge, which might work, sure... But you should most likely expect some weirdness. So that might be an explanation...
If this is the case, I'd suggest you install a 64-bit TX16Wx and test again.

I think I misread the last digit before (font is very tiny :) )

version is 2.4.0e3616.2558

I just reinstalled the x64 version from the tx16wx web site and still get the same version number.

What should the version number be for a 64-bit install?

I used this file to install:

TX16Wx Software Sampler 2.4.0e Setup (x64).exe

Thank you for taking the time to help!!

Post

If the installer says x64, it is 64-bit. And 2558 is the correct version number for the 64 bit build you are describing.
However, do check that you are not running bridged mode anyway (run plugin in separate process). While it should work just fine, it might cause issues depending on system (maybe? I guess?)

Yes, I've tried both bridged mode and running in a separate process and get the same results both ways.

"bridged" is the same thing as separate process. I hope you meant "native". Which is "inside the app".
