Hello everyone,

I've updated the Minimoog patch.
-The MSEG1 was switched to "seconds" (so that it won't change with the tempo) and fine-tuned.
-All waveforms were finetuned to retain sharpness with lower frequencies.
For example, here's a before and after on a low oscillating Tri-Saw waveform.

-No need for the OSCFX anymore.

Getting a good punch attack is kinda critical to those nice hardware sounds.
If you dont have that punch feel then the waveform will just sound flat and boring. In most cases its the 1st second of a sound which defines how we perceive it. A good example is the LA synthesis introduced in Roland D-50 synths where attack waveforms when combined with sustain waveforms created various instruments.

Now regarding raw analog waveforms we are talking about the same thing but on a micro level, the better envelope attack the more bite you can introduce via the filter.

That attack is so important that we usually turn to compressors on basses for that certain snap in the attack, but the best thing is to have that attack being there from the start.

Lately i've been working with Nord synthesizers like Nord Wave and Nord Lead and although these synths in basic are software they do have a very nice natural punch on the envelope start. Access Virus on the other hand have a very synthetic punch which is not my cup of tea.

So, dont forget the third important factor, the attack :) Waveform and filter wont do it alone.

That's why i still love and use Vaz synths for all retro sounds.
They has the most convincing "analog" attack i have heard from a soft synth.

Sorry to ressurect an old post but I just got into uhe synths and found your minimoog patches. I have a minimoog. Your patches are close but not quite a minimoog. There is too much high end sizzle and the sizzle is too crisp. the attack is pretty close though - you captured what to me sounds like the dirty initial attack of a minimoog. i always thought of it as "waking up those sleeping filters". I tried dialing down the CF on your patch but it doesn't do it. that sizzle is still there, it just gets darker. this tells me there is an artifact in the waveform that is broad band. another thing it lacks is this sense of "air" in the texture of the waveform. not sure how you could emulate that without getting down to the hardware level.

anyway. close. almost a cigar. :tu:

^ thanks, but the patch is pretty old now and REALLY needs updating/remake.
Waiting for Zebra3... (especially for the feedback function since it's part of the Moog "signature" sound)
