Is it possible to modulate an arpeggio so that it syncs to both song position/start and tempo? LFO seems to be free running when you select "sync" for restart. Free as in starting at what ever phase LFO is currently at. "Gate" seems to restart when any key gate is open, works for pads etc, but not for arps.
On some synths you can lock LFO phase by setting any other value than zero, but doesn't seem to work here.
This seems to be my main gripe and confusion with most synths, the handling of LFO phase ..
The synth itself seems to sound pretty good, very "hi-fi" in a way. Nice oscs and filters.

Same problem here. My drumloops in Hive go completely off when played on a keyboard - it only syncs perfectly when played via a MIDI clip. I've tried all the usual settings as well as not-so-usual, and I simply cannot consistently sync up my loops when played by hand. I do not have this problem in Zebra nor Bazille.raymondwave wrote:Is it possible to modulate an arpeggio so that it syncs to both song position/start and tempo? Thanks...I think there's a good possibility they'll be included with Hive after the beta period.aaron aardvark wrote:Some of the synth sounds are very cool (reminds me of Talking Heads at times). Patch sharing?mcnoone wrote:Some funky sounds I did with the Hive.

Here's some more.

edit: I'm originally a guitar player, not much for keyboard skills, please excuse the unskilled playing.

Hi Urs and Friends:
Just wondering exactly/precisely when the beta serial ends? (it says 'valid till Jan 31st ). One Synth Challenge Hive edition officially ends on 4AM EST, 1st of February, and a lot of people submit their song near the deadline, so I'm wondering when to send out a reminder before hand to make sure they don't get stuck.
Thanks

I just want to say I'm quite interested in the end result of all this work. When I am trying to determine if I am going to buy a synth or effect I always like to give the demo a work out first. So here is what I came up with, with Hive. This is a track with 6 instances of Hive: 2 are the same sound slightly different and 1 is a patch from the forum from XenosSoundworks.com called PL Synpizzi - it starts and ends the tune (the swelling pad).
I've included a soundcloud link to the demo and the patches I created too.

Thanks for the support! I have a long weekend just starting up which I'm hoping to more or less dedicate to this. Spent tonight cleaning up some of the code and starting to look at how I'm going to output the actual h2p. Last night I started looking into what chorus settings to use in Hive and totally got lost into reading the last few Synth Secrets articles on the subject. Fun times.bmrzycki wrote:I just want to say I'm quite interested in the end result of all this work. By way of example, I've attached a conversion of the factory "56 Reed 2" patch which was mostly done using the script. I did have to tweak the filter decay and sustain more than I would have liked to... need to tweak them parameters a bit more I guess. I think it comes relatively close, and honestly when I hard pan the two synths I have trouble telling the difference except maybe in the release.
Still to do: bottom row, relative volume of the oscillators, reverse engineering the arpeggio, maybe some basic aftertouch support and of course patch export.

I have to admit, I'm really starting to like the sound of this thing ^___^. At first I thought it reminded me of Bazille a bit too much, and I always thought Bazille had a very.... dark electrical kind of sound to it; mechanical and sort of hard to put your finger on. I'm surprisingly hearing a lot of really beautiful pads and sounds that I didn't expect
.
Ironically, while I'm happy to hear people experiment and do more than just contemporary EDM, I'm hearing more non-EDM sounds at this point XD.
I don't suppose there is a 'patch dump' post with all the posts thus far?
Wanting to move toward simpler synths with more immediacy (ala Spire), I'm finding this synth is perfectly timed and right with what I'm looking for ^___^.

1) dunno i was thinking the same, got trapped into the EDm idea too.
2) yes thinking outside the box and everything is possible
3) yes at the Patchlib, there are all presets collected.
4) i find Hive on the level of spire, sylenth1, liking it a lot.

@shiek927 I was surprised at how easy and immediate it was to get into patching it. Something like Zebra is more of a commitment. one thing to try with Hive is dial the 4 volumes down, 2 in each oscilator and then open up just the main volume of osc 1. make sure its selected as a source in filter 1. and basically go from there. you will be surprised at how fast you can dial up a new sound. try adding a number of unison oscillators in osc 1, like 4 to 6 and mess with the detune knob and filter to taste.
Hive has this electronic buzzy sound generally, even with the filters closed off. hence the name Hive I guess. bees. buzz. I am still deciding if its a synth for me however. I try and be judicious with plug in purchases. I am definitely going to get Zebra.
