u-He Reverbs, Hive Reverb - Bazile Reverb

Maybe I just need to experiment more with settings and moving the module positions around more.
It not that they are different effects from what Diva has.
It's just that there seems to be some difference in gain output when using the effects.
It's difficult to get the effects to sound more balanced with regard to the sounds main output.
Edit:
Here's what I came up with, but the Hive uses the EQ, and Chorus, as well as delay, and reverb, which both have the mix at 49%
The Diva example just uses the delay, and reverb.
This is a soft sound though. With certain other sounds, I can't get as good effects coverage, and they don't sound as upfront in the mix as they do in Diva.
Maybe a gain for the effects section would help. I can use eq, and compression to increase how the effects mix in with the overall sound, but I didn't have that in Diva to accomplish the same balance.
Of course Diva has the Wet and Dry settings, instead of Mix knobs.
Maybe I just need to spend more time on the effects to get the best out of them.

So far I've nothing but good things to say about the entire Hive fx section really. Or Bazille's, really, with the spring reverb being a classic modular companion. But it seems I'm turning into a bit of a U-he fanboy so who can trust what I say?
To me it sounds like the mix knobs don't follow the "0:100 - 100:100 -100:0" range, rather a mixture or more simple design (ex. 0:100 - 100:0). So that's why using a compressor fixes the perception of the sound. I've found the reverb to be best used as a subtle enhancer, whether just noise or a little extra width. Then a more fine-tuned reverb can handle your more precise needs.
And the diffuse knob? Pure silk

Well i am not afraid or ashamed to say i am a u-He FanBoy, lol.
And then when you talk to people you get ,,oh you just like u-He thats why''.

Exactly. Regardless of your logic xDBasariStudios wrote:Well i am not afraid or ashamed to say i am a u-He FanBoy, lol.

I was just doing a forum search, and couldn't seem to find a thread dedicated to people sharing their own music using exclusively u-he synths? I know I got quite a couple in the works...

I did a piece using exclusively AIR instruments only, working on u-He piece now.
And of course i need to use Drums ONLY from elsewhere. At one point i was
thinking of doing it ALL u-He, even the drums but it has to be more a la Jarre
Style then with all kinds of Analog Drums Sounds...i should not give up on that
Idea, still sounds interesting.

Almost bought an AIR instrument during the holiday sales but figured i had spent enough money lol. I'm halfway through a song for the HIVE one synth challenge (not sure yet if I'll finish), and I thought the track I almost had done was only u-he but I had bounced audio from another synth in there. ah well... If I had diva I could probably emulate it xD

There are too many different things in your example... different sounds and different fx... so I tried a simpler test.mcnoone wrote:Maybe I just need to experiment more with settings and moving the module positions around more.

I just tried both Hive and Diva... each a saw wave with 12db filter set approx the same cutoff and no resonance. Since Diva is mono, I set the width of the single Osc in Hive to width 0. They sound quite close.
Now I add just reverb on both synths. I set pre-delay to 0 and Damp, Decay and Size the same for both. Diva reverb has diffusion so I leave that on 100 (assuming Hive is such). Hive has Width and Tone which I set to 100 and 0 (assuming that would approx Diva)
That leaves Dry/Wet for Diva and Mix for Hive. They seem to scale very differently between the two. For Diva, Dry defaults to 90 so I left it there. I set Wet to 30. To get the same approx reverb level in Hive, I ended up with Mix set to 70.
That seems odd, but at that point they do sound the same...

Yea I was too quick to judge, as I don't use effects when making sounds, and then after going back and experimenting more with the effects, I just found it was more difficult for me in Hive, than Diva, to get the effects to mix better with the sound. Eq and compression do help, but it also may be that my output levels while creating sounds without any effects are simply too high, and overpowered the mix, leaving the effects no room in the mix. Though I don't recall having to figure this kind of thing out with Diva. So if I just bring the main output down a bit, the effects won't sound as if they're stuck in the background, and will fit with the sound better.pdxindy wrote: There are too many different things in your example... different sounds and different fx... so I tried a simpler test.

Yes, after some experimenting, I'm finally finding out how to get the effects more upfront sounding.pdxindy wrote:Like I said, I think it is just a matter of adjusting the mix knob... because it scales differently
I think having the original sound (with no effects applied) being too loud in regard to output level, doesn't help either. The main sound has to be at a low enough level to leave some space for the effects to fit into the overall sound.
Not to mention, a lot of sounds Hive can do with heavy detune use, and long release times and other envelope settings, can sound like they already have reverb, and delay on them, without using any effects.
