Solo/mute on MIDI channels routed to plugins

I've noticed the solo/mute doesn't seem to do what I expect when I route the MIDI output of a channel to a plugin on another channel

So the plugin is the Access Virus TI VST plugin, it has 16 midi ins. Say I have 4 channels routed to it. If I solo e.g. channel 4, I hear nothing, if I also include the virus plugin as a solo I hear all 4 at once

Also if I mute one of the channels, it still plays. I have to mute MIDI all the midi clips in the area I want to mute it to get the desired effect

Am I doing somthing wrong?
