This synth also seems to be gaining popularity rapidly. I wouldn't be surprised if it sold well. Good times ahead for u-he it seems! :)

So I guess just install the updated version over the existing one?

Yep. Install it to the same folders as before.

It's just like Diva. I imagine the filters have a lot to do with it, but the quality is so good that, with the right tinkering, you have a lot more depth that one may think at first ^_^.

And when you have a synth that's as easy and rich as Diva, but with much less CPU, you have something really special :)

The manual indicates a Oscillioscope in the empty hexagon. There isn't one yet, but I'm guessing that's what the mysterious space will be :).

you know what would be awesome? :D

MACROstuff! yeah but not complex, you know where you can adjust the range (e.g. lfo knob range) on each know with a small red lightning saber indicating the range and then a popup small window gets up and you can adjust sync tempos or frequencies! :D

but those macros are only for each know, no routing (this would be comples) so this way you dont need to create automations just to automate a knobrange (e.g. lfo knob in pic moving)

bad idea? :P

oh yeah with hotkey holded or right mouse button hold and then draw the range from the point of the set range

You are not alone my friend. He makes it look so easy too. The true mark of a master.

So much to learn!

Update: I think I got it.

Last night, I was thinking about what I was doing, scripting the cutoff/envelope/filter sustain based on each other and struggling to get all three to lock up in sync, and contrasting with how it works in a real synth. It dawned on me... wait a minute, these three components are all actually independent of each other, despite the combined difference they make in the sound. Internally, the cutoff determines the "base" voltage. The envelope amount basically stacks a voltage envelope on top of the cutoff base, with a maximum value determined by the env slider. The sustain says what level the envelope slider sticks at while a key is held down. While they affect each other in different ways, Hive and TAL both do the same thing, so if I just consider them as independent components then Hive will take care of the interaction for me. Muuuuuch simpler.

Tonight I did my tests and regressions, and recoded the script accordingly. I also recalibrated the filter envelopes 'cause hoooweee did mine suck. In fact, getting good data for the filter delay posed a bit of a challenge -- with the amplitude envelopes I bounced out of my DAW a pulse with the decay at various values, then in Audacity trimmed using a script when the volume passes below -60dB (I think this is a standard used for measuring convolution reverb times). You can't do that with filter decay since even when the resonance is in the subsonic range it's still outputting 0dB, just at 8Hz. I got around this by placing an 8-pole high shelf filter at 110Hz on the channel script to get some amp attenuation. Seems to do the job.

Still to do is the bottom row -- glide, velocity sensitivity, arpeggiator and the various LFO options (have the rate down though). I'm not sure what to do about LFO delay -- modulating it via an envelope is an option but I'd rather reserve it for other things. I'll figure something out.

Keytracking is pretty rough and I'm not sure I'll be able to get them much closer, as the pivot point for TAL is at I think C3 rather than E3. Might just call it ~character~ and leave it at that. I can probably stand to mix the oscillators better as well.

---

So now that this big hurdle is out of the way... how about some test patches? I took a look at this Youtube video:

... which has a few fairly basic patches (no HPF on any, sadly) but I do like how they sound. I duplicated them in LU-NO-LX, then converted them to Hive using just my script, with no altering after the fact. I've attached a .zip with both my TAL and Hive patches.

Some of them, like the bright pad and steambass, do a pretty good job of emulating the TAL. the ones with PWM bound to LFO are overcooked, as I didn't take into account how much the modulation would be, just the LFO rate. The 80s bass is also off by a good amount (although I like the resulting timbre!). But overall it's working out okay. And I love how all of them sound doubled up with the TAL patches.

Listening to some of the patches I really was "How the heck did they do that??"

Funny to see Howard "going EDM". :clown:

Too bad I haven't got a keyboard with aftertouch, let alone breath control and what not.

And your patches are awesome too, I especially like those Psytrance ready sounds.

You can always assign those controls to your DAW, or MIDI keyboard CC knobs.
