Sorry, it's very late and I've just finished setting up the Sonar Platinum upgrade...
I kept hitting 'quote' instead of 'edit' on my earlier posting to fix some typos.

Logic never has been a multithreading-DAW, it only uses one core per plugin, no matter what you do - so for us upping the buffers is the only option.Naenyn wrote:Kaleidoscope sure makes some beautiful sounds... but on my MBP in Logic Pro X 10.1, it is a CPU destroyer. I notice too when I bring up Logic's built-in CPU meter that only one of my cores is taking a hit. Changing the multithreading setting in the plugin doesn't seem to make a difference. Only the buffer size does. Depending on settings, I get terrible noise/crackle.
On a side note.. some presets seem to produce sound regardless of the presence of input coming in to the plugin. Is that the way it should be?

guys,
we fixed some issue in the PC version. On some systems plug-in could not retrieve the number of available cores properly.
this could potentially have caused some performance issues.
anyone who would you like to try the new PC build email us to: support@2caudio.com
also if you experience performance issues check your cpu loading per core. all cores should be loaded equally
(or close to equal). if it's not the case let us know.
Regards,
Denis (2CAudio)

Works great in Live 9 and Cubase 7.5 but there seems to be a bug when using Kaleidoscope in Cubase Pro 8 where you can't make selections in the image menu or tuning menu.
Does the new PC build address this? Has anyone else experienced this problem? LOVE the plugin otherwise.

I'm having the same problem with FXpansion Bloom as well. They suggested I roll back Cubase. Right. It's very likely a Cubase 8 problem, imho.w1awb wrote:Works great in Live 9 and Cubase 7.5 but there seems to be a bug when using Kaleidoscope in Cubase Pro 8 where you can't make selections in the image menu or tuning menu.

Hey guys. All of the "full song" demo examples were done in cubase 8 on OS X. Wayfarer, AS1, Andreas Sans I all did personally as well as most everything else that does not have someone else's name on it.
I personally definitely did not have any issues selecting images, turnings, or waveforms or anything else in cubase on OS X. For wayfarer pieces I was running 12-16 instances live plus several b2s and aether's and maybe a breeze or two. This is on a Mac pro 12 core cylinder.
All of the dry isolated demo sounds that I did were done either in Cubase 8 on osx or in sound forge on windows (on w dual 4 core xeon machine from 2010) The playlist is like 3.5 hours long already for the demo sounds!
As mentioned in the first post:
Kaleidoscope employs a lot of new technology including variable buffer size and variable multi-threading schemes. It has been in beta testing since August of 2014, but only in the wild for a few days now with thousands of people now trying the demo. Any and all minor issues found in the next few weeks will be thoroughly explored and fixed. We appreciate any and all feedback and are always listening. The introductory pricing offer is longer than usual to be sure everyone gets a fair chance to explore it. Minor hot fixes, etc. will be supplied as needed. We are exploring some additional CPU optimizations as well. Thanks for all of your support!!

Interesting. Well I am Cubase 8 Windows 7 so maybe that's the difference. (Not OS X) My system is fairly up to date. It's an i7 4930 with 32 gb of ram. Still...it would be nice if somebody else could reproduce this problem. As I said ...everything is working fine in Cubase 7.5 and Live 9.

Thanks for all those details. Fractal Smith Tuney looks really cool. I hope KS will support .tun or .scl files in the future. I have all my organized in Omnisphere and I would love to transfer them over.arachnaut wrote:The fractal demos were made using Fractal Tune Smithy to generate the fractal MIDI sequences. The synths were Serum and Bazille. I don't remember the KS presets.jackmazzotti wrote:Where are those Jim Hurley fractal presets? Can't find them.
I do have notes about how I made most of the demos:
- Auralis Uncollidoscoped: My Reaktor ensemble 'Auralis Modded' was used for the sound.
- Rambling Notes was made with the preset 'Rambling Notes' in Kaleidoscope followed by 'Laser Guided' in Aether. The Kaleidoscope presets used these images: Honey2 and Liquefaction
- Sulphurated Molasses was made with the preset: "Sulphurated Molasses" using these images: Cees.png and Duodeca1.png
- Chime-time: Reaktor Spiral (patch: Swinging EPs) -> Reaktor Kontour (patch: Metallic - Cupola) -> Kaleidoscope (patch: Chime-time) -> Breeze (patch: Larji Tunnel)
The Chime-time Kaleidoscope patch uses this image: arachnaut-test.png- Spread-Spectrum was made with the Spread-Spectrum preset using these images: Liquefaction and Rand.
- Jabberwockey was made by driving Reaktor Monark with Reaktor Spiral and feeding that in Kaleidoscope preset 'Jabberwockey'. Kaleidoscope 'Jabberwockey' uses images: Liquefaction.
- Bouncing Rubber Balls was made thusly:
Reaktor Spiral -> u-he Bazille (patch ARK Filthy Boy) -> Kaleidoscope (patch Bouncing Rubber Balls) -> Breeze (patch Follow Me).- Automatic-Sequence-01: Reaktor Automato (patch: Sounds like Subotnick) -> Serum (patch: FX Shotgun [FN]) -> Kaleidoscope (patch: Factory Rhythmic Melody Algebraic Order) -> Breeze (patch: Follow Me)
- Halloween trolling was made with preset "Cees and Desist2.2ca" which uses two images: Cease.png and Crumbs.png
- Primitive-Particle-Rhythms---and-other-typographical-anomalies: Reaktor Spiral (patch: Feed the Spiral 4) -> Serum (patch: BA Deep Sync BS) -> Kaleidoscope (patch: Factory Rhythmic Filter Beat Box 01) -> Breeze (patch: Shape Shifter)
- Primal pulse was made from a slightly modified factory patch: Primal Poly Pulse 5
Reaktor Spiral -> Alchemy (Metallurgy patch Vibraphone Bowed) -> Kaleidoscope (patch Primal Poly Pulse 5a) -> B2 (patch Fuzzy Rez)- Formation Effect: Reaktor AutoDrummer (patch: What Would Cage Do?) -> Kaleidoscope (patch: Formation Effect mod) -> B2 (patch: Granular Clusters)
- Squirmy Creature: Fractal Tune Smithy (patch: jazzy fibonacci tonescape)-> Kontakt (patch: Skiddaw Stones) -> Kaleidoscope (patch: Squirmy Creature) -> B2 (patch: The Duality is Here)
All factory patches.- Hacking Twitter accounts:
Reaktor Spiral (patch: Junkyard Beats 1) -> Serum (patch: PL Crusty Pluck [LCV]) -> Kaleidoscope (patch: Hacking Twitter) -> Breeze (patch: FX Distant Thunder)- Robo-bop:
Spiral (patch: In the Doldrums 4) -> Monark (patch: Auto Me) -> Kaleidoscope (patch: Robo-bop) -> Breeze (patch: Spacetime Boundary)

Interesting, I did not know that. I just assumed that it would happily multithread. I wonder if Apple will ever change that...Sampleconstruct wrote:Logic never has been a multithreading-DAW, it only uses one core per plugin, no matter what you do - so for us upping the buffers is the only option.

KS should be using all cores (if you allow it by setting threading prefs to 100% or more) in Logic (and all other hosts). CPU load should not be only on one core (unless the pref is set to "off")
See earlier in the thread for details. Or better the manual towards the end. After all the other words.
If we find this is not true for some circumstances this is a minor bug and something we will fix. We Ks to have access to all available cores at all times (if you let it.)
