don't you already have to search by ear ??
Nope. In case of complex sounds with many different parts, I need to know immediatelly where are the points of focus. For example waveform allows you to know that there are no interesting sounds left at all and there's nothing to search for.

Granular synthesis needs sample visual display. It doesn't make sense without, granular by definition mirco-works into a piece of audio, not being able to see which part you’re working in doesn’t make sense to me.

i do understand that. i guess it depends on how well you know the sample, going in. on that omnisphere video, eric knows the exact time to advance to hit the spot he wants to work on. i can see that when you are just hopping around looking for that sweetspot, the waveform could help out

i shot spectrasonics a mail about the visualization, im curious what they will reply, cause this is really needed in my opinion, and 2 markers definitely!

got a reply of spectrasonics!

"The Granular functions have been greaty improved, but there is no option to display the waveform.

I will pass you seuggestion along. It seems like a good idea.

Please let me know if you need anything else.

i was looking for that tutorial after watching the 'guitars' series. it would be useful :tu:

might 'pm' you tomorrow. thanks :)
With some peace of mind available today, I finally did a first basic tutorial for Steinberg's Padshop Pro, creating a patch from scratch using a simple psaltery pluck sample from my library Granular Guitars, the video is 20+ minutes long:

Thank you for the demonstration, Sampleconstruct. As a result, I have added another synth program to my already long wish list!

Yet another excellent tutorial. I've used Padshop for a while, but you showed me some great new tips!

I also suggested it to Eric on the VI Cotnrol and he admitted it was a good idea.

However this doesn't give me a ton of confidence. I can't really believe that in all this development, nobody said "hey we should have a waveform display like every other granular sampler ever, showing the position of playback". So I feel like there is some reason they don't want it. They've faced the same criticism/suggestion with Stylus RMX. Everybody wants a waveform display of the loops and people have been saying that for years. So they really just didn't think of that for Omnisphere? Something is weird there.
