Another experimental jam, using KS on a percussion sequence (physically modelled drum sounds), some nice warm bass sounds emerge at 3+ minutes.

Are you at NAMM? I seem to be have lost a skirmish with Galbanum's webserver because of a download manager and now have 0 downloads and only 1 file... reported, but if you're at the madhouse known as NAMM, then all is forgiven.Galbanum wrote:Btw If anyone is at namm and would like to say hi send me an email or pm...

Yup.
(Our web store does not like download managers. They must be disabled before you download. Mentioned in the FAQ. I'll reset your download count tonight.)

Well I'm thinking of getting Kaleidoscope, my biggest worry has been the capability of my CPU to keep up with it. Now after having a play in Numerology Pro 4, with Padshop pro playing a granular symphonies patch Fem Vox Falling Angels and AAS String Studio playing a Harmonic Geometery patch called Keys/Murky Hall I've trimmed their voices to give me 6 voice polyphony, additionally I'm using a 2C B2 audio Cascade Space called Light Cascade Hall 2, I'm seeing an main hit of about 34-45% on CPU 1 and about 20% on the three remaining cores of my 3.1 Ghz i5. Judging by this usage I can probably double the load. For me that's more than acceptable perfomance... The sound sources don't have to be that Complex and CPU heavy as the effects can create so much on their own it seems..
The GUI seems pretty self explanetory, after a half an hour I understand most of the controls, also thanks to watching Simon Stockhausens demos vids, and reading the thread here.
I'll likely get it, I'm a little low right now, and it erks me to not just get and get to work using it for real on projects.. Hmmm
Too bad the dollar is so strong against EU currency, the Danish Kroner is tied to the Euro, so it's not good..
I' really like the idea of the Kaleidoscope, don't have anything like it among my other plug in, perhaps I'm a little conservative that way, but with Kaleidoscope I see Andrew has reached a sweet spot where sound quality , user friendliness, interesting visual feedback, and visual related tools work together to create a whole new workflow experience with the emphasis on flow..
I speculated about it being a realtime type of effect or if it will be mostly used for created material to be fed into a sampler for playing and it seems to me that it can easily be used for both purposes..
I suppose the only thing that would hold me back from getting it would be a lack of time to play with it, but that has never stopped me before, and after all, I still have periods where I can get a lot of quality time with my studio in the box..
So I think here it seeing a line of thought that leads more to a when I'll be buying and not an if...Either now or Now or NOW! Or just a little bit later, tiny weenie smaller little bit later...

waves break, but somehow it all makes sense.

Purchased this the other day and have gone through the manual and spent a few hours with the plugin. I have to say I feel like some video tutorials are in order.
I'm a Metasynth user who grabbed the Galbanum bundle when it was on sale a year or two back. Also big fan of Iris 1.
Probably due to these experiences I find myself constantly frustrated that I can't edit the Image Maps. I know live editing is not a feature you want to add but i'd be interested to know more about techniques around that aspect as I don't feel like I have much control yet.
I'm also an Artmatic dilettante so will be trying some of those.
I've yet to try it but presume I can setup an image in Metasynth, save and convert it to png and it should work?

Thanks man! Yes I tried to design the gui/workflow to be easy/fun. It should be easy to get great results semi-randomly without knowing much about what you are actually doing. It can be tons of fun this way. But it goes as deep as you want to go and is ready for you when and if you want to have advanced purposeful control. At the deepest levels you can explore making your own scales, waveforms, and images if you do choose. But it's completely optional. I'm making more myself too and I am sure others will to as as the content library grows the product becomes more and more powerful as new presets can be created by combining it all in different ways.TwoToneshuzz wrote: The GUI seems pretty self explanetory, after a half an hour I understand most of the controls, also thanks to watching Simon Stockhausens demos vids, and reading the thread here.

Videos are absolutely in order. Agree. Will happen.secretkillerofnames wrote:Purchased this the other day and have gone through the manual and spent a few hours with the plugin. I have to say I feel like some video tutorials are in order.

What sort of editing tools are you most looking for re editing out of curiosity?
Great idea.I'm also an Artmatic dilettante so will be trying some of those.

Thanks for the feedback.

Similar to Metasynth I guess. Some kind of brush and pencil tool. Something to draw shapes and something to blur and stretch them. I can understand why it might be a task you want to avoid. Proper drawing programs will always offer more powerful alternatives. It just feels like a restriction... say i'm playing with a preset that is perfect but I want to change the attack of some parts of the sound... if I could just apply a blur to that section of the image...Galbanum wrote: What sort of editing tools are you most looking for re editing out of curiosity?
I don't want to come across as unappreciative of what you have achieved here though. If this were a new room in a future Metasynth i'd probably just stay here forever.

No prob. We appreciate the feedback and all ideas. Something I really like about KS is that it has a tendency to inspire people to have all kinds of new ideas. That naturally includes ideas for more features of course. No prob. That is natural and I take it as a compliment and indication that we made something inspirational -- which is always our deepest goal for all our products.
I have tons of things I want to do with Ks already. 1.0.0 is only the beinging. It's already amazing IMHO (if I am allowed to say that) but when you see where we want to take it you're gonna freak out completely.
As it evolves I think this product will be of historical importance for sound-design and electronic music as a whole. That's maybe a bold statement, but I've said bold things before and people thought I was crazy at the time only to agree later. We'll see said the zen master.

I'd definitely like to see a video demonstration of this. I've tried everything I can but have not had any luck.Galbanum wrote:KS should be using all cores (if you allow it by setting threading prefs to 100% or more) in Logic (and all other hosts). @secretkillerofnames - very much agree with you about wanting Metasynth like drawing tools, if that counts as an extra vote Andrew.
@TwoTonesHuzz - I'm watching those exchange rates too. Although the € has massively fallen against the $ and £, the £ has fallen against the $ too. I've never understood these macroeconomic things. Hopefully both £ and € will recover a little before the end of the demo period, because I know I will end up purchasing Kaleidoscope, and B2 too.

B2 is so good. I mean, b2 is the lushest, densest, sweetest and velvety reverb I ever tried.lnikj wrote: Hopefully both £ and € will recover a little before the end of the demo period, because I know I will end up purchasing Kaleidoscope, and B2 too.
I just wish it would work in surround.
have to fallback to space-designer for surround needs.
I really really want Kaleidoscope too, I've been wondering for half a year what are they brewing up on the trashcan Mac Pro.
