It would be nice to choose where to store vst presets and banks automaticaly.

The probleme , now we have to go manualy to folder where is stored the dll to save fbx or fpx. If i select an other Vst, i have to do it again for each Vst.
The problem all free vst dont load last loaded presets.
I have made folder for each plugin to keep preset and bank with plugin. So i can move whole folder preset somewhere else when needed.
Other people maybe want to store presets in user or other places.

As far as is understand, vst and vsti names locations are stored in session or in other file.
Maybe you can use folder information of vst location to be able to store automaticaly preset in folder where is the dll, and this way we can use vst and vst presets with other vsthost program too.

Using only one default folder for vst presets is not a very good option. If you have more than 10 Vst, You will never remember wich preset belongs to the right plugin.

Maybe folder option for vst presets can be added in futur release.

In fact it could even be the standard configuration, knowing that it can be very easy because the pathname of the dll is already known by the Mulab (or MUX) database. The folder is even visible to the user if in the list of VST Synths which at the right side of your screen you do on a synth (whatever you want) the gesture "Right Click" > "Show Info". You immediately have a short list of informations about this synth dll... among them its pathname. So I agree with you, I think that it could be very easy for Jo to set simply to the dll folder the default path of the presets for that dll. It would make us the life much easier for our management of presets (and banks).

Yes i agree and this was on the wishlist anyway, i'll implement it in the next version.
So best a separate folder path for banks (fxb) and a separate folder path for programs (fxp) and this for each VST independently, right?

Not shure if really need 2 folder for banks and presets. But what is better is to be able to go folder where vst dll is stored.
I have made nested folder to groupe same kind of vst and vsti . And each vst has his own folder for the dll. So if you if you use option button of your vst (wheel up right on frame) for loading or saving , it would be nice to be in the folder wherer is the dll. Because if you have all presets from all vst in same folder you will never be able to find the right presets. Imagine you have 50 vst and just 10 presets . You have 500 presets in same folders. You have the info where each dll is stored in some kind of list, else you would not be able ti see the vst plugins in Plugin manager. Make just use a variable for store path for each vst loaded in session, this way you can access from option button of the Vst you are currently using. Im not saying its easy to program.

But having favorite as option would be easier to implant as first improvement.

What i meant is: Each VST will have a last program folder path and a last bank folder path. Initially these paths will point to the VST DLL folder but if you change the program/bank folder then the program/bank path will be updated. So you can do what you want, and others who might use another organisation can also do what they want. Right?

Little complication: The "Open Program/Bank" function combines loading banks (FXB) and programs (FXP). So there are two options now:

1) Split up "Open Program/Bank" into "Open Bank" and "Open Program" so that there can be a separate favorite path for banks and programs.

2) Only use a single common favorite path for both bank and programs. (but still per VST of course)

Which option is best?

Or 3rd option:

"Open Bank/Program" uses the last bank file path. (see below)
"Save Bank" uses the last bank file path. (=ok)
"Save Program" uses the last program file path. (=ok)

So this might be 'not perfect' when you've saved a program in a different folder than where you store banks for that vst, then you want to load a program, cause then the browser will start at the last bank path.

I have very few exceptions (Nusofting Knagalis and TAL-U-NO-LX for example) where the folder of presets/banks is totally outside the path of the dll.

In 95% of the cases the presets/banks are in a subfolder of the main folder of the plugin.

And very generally my banks are in dedicated subfolders (a subfolder per bank or so). For the alone presets I consider a subfolder a bit like a bank.

In my opinion the method which could satisfy 95% of the users (and of the plugins) is to simply point to the folder containing the dll. We can easily do the rest of the job by one or two clicks, it doesn't eat many calories to our fingers.
:D

Concerning the presets which are totally outside (I have very few examples but they exist, yes), I haven't checked if the tree shown in Mulab follows the Windows "links" to folders. Does it follow these Windows links to an external folder? If it does... it resolves these remaining cases.
