multi out VSTs

Just want to add that you can add extra audio outputs to a MUX by adding "Audio Output" modules inside that MUX, which will result in an extra audio output jack for that MUX in its parent modular level (also a MUX or the root = session modular area). Does this help?

Thankyou for that - but can you explain further - I've added an audio out in the mux and routed a vst output to it - but nothings happening

sorry you've lost me there

Where did you plugin that MUX? If it's plugged in in another MUX or session modular area, you'll see the extra audio out there. If you plugged it in in a rack, then the extra out is not visible/usable, cause racks are for the 'simply easy' cases.mickwest1 wrote:Thankyou for that - but can you explain further - I've added an audio out in the mux and routed a vst output to it - but nothings happening
The modular structure is a tree structure with the root being the session modular area. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tree_%28data_structure%29"an extra audio output jack for that MUX in its parent modular level (also a MUX or the root = session modular area)"sorry you've lost me there

Ok - I put the mux in the session modular area and I can see the outputs - which I can route into different racks - it's good to know I can do that - but actually in this case it's not any different to just putting the plugin directly in the modular area - and I still can't save the output routing/racks to a preset.
I normally design start-up templates anyway so this won't be too much of a problem
I really think though that you've created this complication by purposely not allowing all configured outputs to be visible as separate racks from the start. You could easily have a setting for each plugin to show/hide outputs. After using Cubase and Energy XT I can confirm that this is the easiest way.
However the many plus points of your lovely program far outweigh this - and I really appreciate your hands on help - many many thanks
I've been working on my first projects using mutools and find it a good pleasurable experience because it is designed to be helpful to the user - rather than an obstacle course like most other DAWS

Isn't that logical? I mean: IF you want to save a certain setup, including certain connections, then make sure all these connections are inside the MUX. (directly or in a deeper MUX level (cfr treelist)) Agreed? Or am i missing something?mickwest1 wrote:Ok - I put the mux in the session modular area and I can see the outputs - which I can route into different racks - I still can't save the output routing/racks to a preset.
You mean like inserting the multi-out VST in the session modular area and automatically creating racks for all outputs of this VST?I really think though that you've created this complication by purposely not allowing all configured outputs to be visible as separate racks from the start.

If I keep them inside the mux I don't get a visible rack in the mixermutools wrote:Isn't that logical? That would be one way - but I'd prefer just to insert a VST rack in the mixer and automatically create racks for all outputs - you could select which outputs in the VST manager screenYou mean like inserting the multi-out VST in the session modular area and automatically creating racks for all outputs of this VST?I really think though that you've created this complication by purposely not allowing all configured outputs to be visible as separate racks from the start.

Mick, just FYI: i've edited your post a bit cause the quote-unquote was not right, it appeared as 1 big quote. Only edited that of course. I'll reply on topic soon.

That's what I've done in the screenshot - a rack for each output from Kontakt. But if you put Kontakt into a rack and expected each slot to have up to 32 outputs, you'd find it impossible to wire the rack up!

I see. Will think about this.mickwest1 wrote:If I keep them inside the mux I don't get a visible rack in the mixer

If this were to be added, might I request it be optional i.e. be able to switch on/off in the preferences? Personally, I like to have control over the racks e.g. if I'm using 3 outs from an 8 out vst, I'd rather add the racks as I'm using them than have it automatically create a load of racks and then have to delete the racks I'm not using. Or maybe, I'd want to route more than one out from the vst into one rack etc. For my workflow automatically creating the racks would create more work. I understand this is not the case for everyone of course. You mean like inserting the multi-out VST in the session modular area and automatically creating racks for all outputs of this VST?I really think though that you've created this complication by purposely not allowing all configured outputs to be visible as separate racks from the start.

Not having the outputs shown would be OK if there was an option just to show them - but there's not
In energy XT (sorry Jo) - all outputs are shown by default (only the ones you choose in the plug in though) - but you make one click to hide any unused ones - very logical and easy to me
It's also not such a big deal in Energy because the mixer channels are long and thin like most daws with all eq/inserts/sends etc visible (again switchable in Ext) - however Mulab's rack equivalents only show these details when expanded

I think that if it will be possible to include nested racks in the main rack desk then it will be possible to do what you want, like in e-xt. For then you could put the multi-out in a MUX and connect all individual outs you want to racks in that MUX and all these racks can be made visible in the main rack desk. That will bring you close to where you want, right? And i'm sure such flexibility for the rack desk will be handy in other situations too.

Hi jo
Yes it's do-able as you describe at the moment - just a slight inconvenience to hook it up - I do get a bit picky about having unnecessary layers !
