interesting news, yes.

my hopes for tracktion 6 are:
1) better/more elegant crossfade options.
the workflow really sucks in this regard. this is one of the main reasons i don't really use it for serious work atm. the handling of audioclips in regards to cutting, crossfading, grouping, etc. could be greatly improved.

2) a new audioengine, that will make latency-compensation possible for all routingschemes and allow for more elegant audiorouting.
like making tails hearable with effects on clips and some cases with sends and busses, where processing-latencies are not correctly compensated.

other than that, i'll let myself be surprised ...

before i forget:
3) better waveformview for quiet recordings. take a recording with very low levels and amplify the clip in tracktion and you get some black blocks to view. seems like the early ages of computers.
even back then nearly 20 years ago, samplitude had supersmooth waveformdrawing, so no excuses

I've become interested in Tracktion, and I've been doing some reading in this forum.

Can you guys give some hints as to where it's going for this upcoming year? I'm a new guy so I didn't get the email referenced above.

Nothing tangible, it was more to do with two new guys joing TSC who will be focusing on VI stuff:

The leaders of the development team, Wolfram Franke (above left) and Taiho Yamada (above right), are well known to the music software community through their considerable body of previous work. They join Tracktion to build a new family of products, beginning with a fresh synthesis "engine," that will both inspire and empower a wide range of musicians.

Wolfram Franke had been a sound designer and product specialist before he became Waldorf's main plug-in developer. He created the Waldorf Largo, PPG Wave 2.V and 3.V, Attack and Steinberg A1programs among others. Wolfram also participated in the development of all Waldorf synthesizers starting with the Wave and the Access Virus TI. His award-winning instruments and sounds can be heard on countless hit records starting back in the late 1980's up to today. His latest work is Stroke Machine, a Groove Synthesizer for the iPad.

Taiho Yamada had been a Project Manager and Director of Sound Development at Alesis, where he worked on innovative and award-winning synthesizers such as the QuadraSynth, QS Series, A6 Andromeda, Ion, Micron, and the Fusion HD workstations. As Senior Product Designer and Product Manager at Avid, he was responsible for producing the sound design for the ProKeys Sono series of slab pianos, and for launching Venom, M-Audio's first virtual analog synthesizer.

"With Wolfram and Taiho's involvement, we're able to bring superior VI products to market quickly," explained Tracktion's James "Woody" Woodburn. "They came with some projects in mind and we have some additional ideas. Together, we'll be able deliver a well rounded instrument package for use on any DAW platform."

There will be more information available on Tracktion's Virtual Instrument packages shortly.

Sounds fantastic!I would glad to see latest zplane time algorithm,enhanced melodyne and more efficient workflow!

Hope they don't just focus on audio but midi too. Simple things like "note split" are not even there.

Nice find! In keeping with the valve inspired retro theme, the accompanying midi keyboard will be a full sized harmonium, obviously with USB power and Midi in / out / thru:
