I feel like it's definitely a bit of a burn to me and to a LOT of people to suddenly end all support and put a full-blown stop to any hope of maintenance updates in the future. Their licenses are expensive.

For sure. Not buying Omnisphere (another expensive license) would be a ridiculous reaction. But I also EXPECT that Spectrasonics will continue to maintain it for a long time. Which is only fair.
I feel much safer having bought Logic Pro X from Apple or any of the software apps from NI, for example, than software from what I perceive might be a garage operation. I don't know what level Spectrasonics is at, but I'm pretty sure it's not at the level of Apple or NI. What if Eric becomes unavailable for whatever reason?

NI is reasonably safe. But, and I say this as a long-term user of Apple products, you don't think Apple wouldn't turn round one day and say, "oh Logic, we've discontinued it. And by the way, we've removed it from the app store so you can't redownload it, ever"?

Apple was a garage operation when it started. It comes down to how quickly they adopt a business model and what that model is. I don't think any of us ever foresaw Apple as becoming the bully on the block though.

But there are at least two VI developers I avoid here, as they seem to hide behind the idea of being just one person refusing to incorporate. I'll wait until they grow up before considering their products. Camel at least had a few on staff, Spectrasonics is a company. So then, how they interact with the market becomes paramount and whether they fall to the ideas of the new model of hit and run saturation to gain a treadmill customer base for chasing obsolescence OR producing something where the product only needs updates to meet the needs of new HW technology.

"Radio active caves" do present the question of whether someone is battling a disorder in their health though.

Nah, Apple makes too much money off Logic. If not the software itself, then the computer hardware they sell to run it effectively.

Spectrasonics is a great company which makes fantastic tools for professionals AND customers while the latest soft- and hardware from Apple shows me that the customer is the main goal and the pro users (especially in a niche like music production) is not (anymore) so important. We all know that the iPhones are their main product. I would say it's save that Apple will live for a long time but if their approach to pro musicians will be still there in a few years. Not sure.
Indeed, i could die tomorrow.. or today ... who knows. So if you want a tool which fits your workflow... buy it and create music like there is no tomorrow :D

Ed A, Gamma-UT
Well, I wouldn't rely too much on NI (as stated in your previous posts).
They dropped support for Kore on me...

Refresh my memory, which companies don't "make tools for professionals"?

You left the word "fantastic" out.

Your hate boner is showing again.

Because the adjective is always subjective.
No hate, just wondering if you have a basis of comparison to be objective there.
So which ones aren't professional? (Most of them are 'fantastic' in someone's eyes.)

And then of course, it begs the question...
Professional what?
;) :hihi:

The adjective changes the meaning of the sentence. It never implied that Spectrasonics is alone in making tools for professionals. Nor would anyone sensible read it that way.

You just wilfully misinterpreted it for some rhetorical trickery. Why would that be, if not to continue some creepy, obsessive campaign?
