slow screen response etc

Is there a way of speeding things up when working on a largish project?

I'm getting a good working routine together - but now I've got about 6 audio tracks and a good few midi tracks things are getting sluggish

If for instance I edit a part length or finish a recording during play it causes a big pause in the timing
and sometimes the screen seems to have trouble re-drawing

Yet if I do a save it has no effect on the playback or the screen

There's also a longer pause when I press play

the CPU meter is averaging about 25% on my quad core PC so I wouldn't normally expect this
and before anybody asks -- yes I have all the proper graphics drivers installed etc etc

It might be handy if I could hide or minimise some of the tracks - or tuck them away into a folder - but I can't see any way of doing this

I did have the program priority set to high - but have now returned it to normal - doesn't seem any different (I'm not running any other programs anyway)

Would the audio threads setting make a difference - it's on 2 (default)

any help greatly appreciated
Cheers

well I've tried all the tweaks I can think of - also just had a near disaster using the tidy up audio routine - program did nothing so eventually had to stop it via task manager - on restart half the audio was missing and had to restore from the recycle bin

I think I'll have to wait until all these problems are sorted out - shame as I've spent a lot of time on it

Please post a screenshot of the project that becomes slow, and/or email me a consolidated copy of it. Consolidated = with all audio files in sub-folders. See SESSION menu -> Export Consolidated Session. Then zip it and email it pls.

OK what is the email address please

OK - have now had numerous communications with Jo about this - some of which he's aware of and will be fixing (eg: hiccups when setting new loop points / editing part lengths while playing)

....but there's other stuff he can't reproduce - ie: the half second delay when I press play , the sluggish screen redraws when zooming, and the delay after clicking on a new start point on the timeline
Jo actually sent me a screen capture running my file on his own PC (not a super fast model) - and all looked a lot snappier than my experience

So there's something causing Mulab to be sluggish - all my other DAW software runs absolutely fine
I'm using quad core PC with 2gb ram which is more than adequate

...also a curious thing happened the other day - I installed an update and ran the same project and hooray - all seemed to run much better - no annoying delays

I then ran the previous version (6.2.7) again to check - and sure enough the sluggishness was back - so promptly re-loaded the updated version , happy that all would now be well

..but guess what - the sluggishness was back! - and now I can't find any way of making snappy again
Jo is as baffled as I am ....so I post this in the hope that someone could throw some light here

I should add that this happens when only audio tracks are present with all plugins uninstalled

I dont use audio that much myself but the only things I can think of are probably the obvious ones...
background tasks running inc security and maintenance software
driver issues
using shared memory for graphics
network turned on
slow or faulty hard drive/memory
All I can think of at min, Im sure youve checked all these things but you never know.
Maybe ask in

see if anyone can help in there

Indeed can't reproduce that. And a pity that the video you sent me did not demonstrate these issues, as you confirmed.
and the delay after clicking on a new start point on the timeline
Oh, that's a new topic. The little delay is for checking whether it's a double-click as a double-click creates a marker. But i agree a click on the timebar should first immediately set the play position, then eventually also create a marker if it turns out to be a double-click. It was like that, but it seems that a certain code reorganisation i did some time ago changed that behavior. Will refix this.

In fact i didn't see much difference between your and mine screen video.

Hi Jo
I agree my video didn't really demonstrate the delay - mainly because of the mouse highlighting thing in the screen recorder
- but I could tell without doubt that your system was considerably quicker - and indeed mine was better for a short while!

I'm not criticising Jo - just thought someone else might have had the same problem

FYI: An updated M6.3.4 is on its way out. It fixes the little double-click delay when clicking the timebar to set a new play position.

great - thanks Jo

yep -That fixes the timebar click delay - much better - thankyou

I wondered if I deleted all the shortcuts it might make a difference to the start delay?
Is there a way of storing them first though?

The shortcuts won't have anything to do with the start delay, they're not checked when clicking.
